What are a full set of '70 buckets worth, and are they obtainable?

I found my truck's little twin (a regular bed, 1/2 ton, big block, AC, etc, same color even) but it had a bench instead of buckets, the only real difference. Then someone pointed out to me today that on the SPID, it originally had buckets the same as mine too!

Anyway, I'm curious: if you get a truck that had buckets and console, and they're gone, what are they worth to hunt down and buy? I see full sets of buddy buckets changing hands, but not the later 1970 style with the center console.

I'm neither buying nor selling, just trying to get informed in case I run into this situation again.

You can safely assume if you buy buckets and recover them yourself and get console redone by someone here on the boards, you'd be looking 1500-1700 bucks

What about without recovering/restoring, just a good used but restorable set? Or is that what you meant (not the cost of upholstery)?

Upholstery and foam alone is probably half of the $1500 number you quoted, so I'm not sure. I mean a serviceable and complete set where the console isn't going to need a ton of plastic welding, but can be restored (I did my own).

too much stuff 11-25-2015 07:38 PM

The console can run anywhere from $50 for a junkyard find to $400 for a nice restored one. The seats could be a few hundred for a junkyard set to maybe $1500 for a restored set.
Condition is everything on these items...

I think it would be very difficult to find the correct color seats you will be looking for. Especially a set that has good foam and covers. You can figure 400 for seats, 450 for foam, 450 for covers, and 300 for console. Plus/minus of course. I think a nice set of already recovered or nice original seats will run a grand plus

Thanks! I think that tells me what I need to know.

I'm from Regina, which is so boring, we used to drive to Williston for fun.

You drove to Williston for fun? We are talking about the same Williston, right? In North Dakota? Lol I'm just teasing. Not a whole lot to do here these days except work.

69-72 buckets will be easier to source than 67-68 buddy buckets, because of a longer production run and they were used in Blazers as well as trucks and burbs.

I think the reason you see the 67-68 buckets more is because they are a hot item right now. If you really start looking, you will find the 70 buckets and console.

Another example in link below. Just sold.

I've bought 3 consoles out of the junkyard for $15-$20 each. My original buckets were in great shape with only some of the bolster panels torn. SMS Fabrics and professional upholstery work cost me $400. No foam and just replacement of the bolster vinyl. Might have been better off cost wise with repro covers, but I can tell the difference a mile away.

Jim

EDIT: Added pics of my seats before and after.

I bought these for $800 frames were like new and foam was in great condition. I just added some new covers and have some real nice seats.

I just sold my near perfect 72 buckets for around $1400. Since 70 in blue is very specific, I'd keep my eyes open, but focus my search for used, any condition, and rebuild with nice foams and seats from Tim. The covers and foams will always run around the same, so if you buy like-new in the wrong color, you're probably losing money unless it's too good of a deal to pass up.

I give $100 for buckets with a console I used for parts and got another console for $40 a little foam work new PUI covers(not the best IMO) and pieced together a console. Stripped the console paint finished with new paint... Installed covers myself. I have less than $500 easy. You can get it done for less than the quoted price above.
