4" one piece driveshaft
 

Hi all, carrier bearing went. Went to local shop and got a quote for a one piece. 4" aluminum. 71 inches long. I searched the forums and some threads I found said it would work, some say no. I'd like to know who's running one and if how much you cut around the crossmember. Thanks!

I'm running a 1 piece in my 71 LWB and it works great. Didn't cut a thing. Mine is a 3" static drop.:chevy:

Wouldn't the drop cause the driveshaft to go up towards the top of the hole more? I'm at factory ride height and idk if it will cause issues. Yours is a 4" as well?

I have a 4" one piece in my 63 long bed. I did have to make the hole in the crossmember larger at the top for clearance when I air out. My truck came with a 3.5" driveline,when I had the new one built they talked me into a 4".. If I had it to do over again I would have stayed with a 3.5"

We always made them out of 3.5" there might be clearance issues with trucks that haven't been lowered.
Why do you want aluminum? Show truck?

Iv got a 4" aluminum one piece in my stock height long bed. I probably could of gotten away without trimming anything but it was a little to close for my comfort. If I remember, I was worried about my axle dropping to low (I drive thru a lot of fields and I always seem to be able to find every sink hole) and the drive shaft hitting the bottom of the crossmember.
I thought about putting limiting straps on the rear end but I ended up cutting about an inch all the way around.
