Marketing.
The second one is ugly and outdated; the first one is beautiful and will help to sell a million trucks. K |

gm did small updates every year to keep their new vehicles fresh, sometimes the upgrade was purely cosmetic, and sometimes it was for a function, it was said that the "new" 62 hood offered quite a bit more front end sight line for the driver. if you have a 60, and a 61 hood, check out the spot in the center up by the cowl vent where the 2 "pods" connect: 60 is smooth and rounded, and 61 has a sharp edge. not sure why this was done, but they are definitely 2 different stampings. |

Re: can someone please explain 1960's emblems
I personally liked the apache 10 emblems on the fender of the 60 opposed to on the hood of the 61. And the single red chevy badge in the center of the 60 hood. As well as the 60 signal light bezels. Like Jewelery on Marylin to me.

"Old" always = outdated, ugly, can't sell a single truck, "is like putting a bowtie on a pig" (actual quote from a Marketing person) "New" always (by definition) = improved, beautiful, we love it, and the trucks will fly off the dealer lots. Styling has made "improvements", either incremental or major, across model years in order to entice new buyers ever since the annual model change was introduced by Alfred P Sloan in the 1920's. K |

Re: can someone please explain 1960's emblems
Funny how we can look back on 55 to 60 years and think how an earlier year can look better than the next best thing. But the opinions of most consumers back in the day was "gotta have the brand new model" no matter what changes were made. "Keeping up with the Jones" I always heard it said.
Reminds me of the shoebox chevys (55-57) Which one is the most popular today? Some will argue that it's the 55 (my favorite) but how can that be? It's the first year of the showbox series. Pefect example of how styling didn't get better, but it probably sure felt like it when that brand new 56 came out.:) I like different, and the cool thing about yesterday's cars and trucks was everything was different from the next and when you seen a 57 chevy there was no mistake what it was. Automakers considered that with every design back then and it showed. |
