New DD, need engine ID help

Hey all, I got a great deal on this 86 Silverado K10 Short that I just couldn't pass up. Emissions sticker by radiator says 5.0 (but thinking it's been changed out since 86). The block casting, engine ID have me confused and wondered if you guys could help me identify what motor is in this truck. Transfer case is 208, tanny is th400

3970010 - BLOCK Casting #
V1003TBF ? - Engine ID (see pic)
C9S118814 - Engine Serial (see pic)

I can't tell if the first letter of the Engine Suffix is I or T ?

As I understand it
V = Flint
1003 = October 03, thought the zeros are different shapes
TBF or IBF ?? engine suffix
C9S118814 - Engine Serial, I don't know how to read this for any info.

Thought with all the info one of you guys would know exactly what motor this is.

Thanks in advance

That block casting was used for 350 engines. Can't really help with the other stuff.

I didn't see a date code listed and I really didn't think someone would put a 302 in a 4wd but you are correct. That is a very common block.

Thanks for the reply manimal, but if it was a 79 wouldn't it have L LS9 in the VIN... any chance the 9 in the serial was for the year 1969 but is actually a 1970 350

What's the date code on the block? That will narrow it down.

Not sure if it's just the angle of your picture but the deck pad looks like the later narrow pad. Early blocks had a thinner pad that was longer than yours appears. If that's the case it cannot be a 1970 block.

yes it's definitely smaller than the older pads, so I'd say you're correct sir. With that info as well as the number 9 as the second letter in the serial, and... I can't tell on the suffix if its TBF, IBF or LBF, but after going through all the codes there's only TBF and ABF so this must be TBF which would make it a 350 and I'm going to go with 1979 like you guys were trying to tell me in the first place. Thanks for the help ... Much appreciated!

That should be the last of your VIN, if I remember correctly.

Good looking truck.

Yep thanks! .. the C= Chevy, S= Plant, 9=year the rest is the VIN that should partly match your Vehicle Identification number, mine don't and I'm glad because this truck came with a 5.0 from the factory. Someone has put a 350 in it.
