1981-83 chevrolet 3/4 ton rear brakes?

3 Attachment(s)
I'm looking for the rear brakes off of a 1981-83 Chevrolet 13 inch rear drum brakes on a 3/4 ton truck or suburban with a semi floating rear end. Here are pictures of the drums and backing plates that I'm looking for. They are mounted on a 1952 Chevrolet 3/4 ton full floating rear axle. I'm going to use them to convert the rear brakes on my 1946 Chevrolet 3/4 ton. What are the part numbers for the brake backing plates for a 1981-1983 Chevrolet 3/4 ton with a semi floating rear axle with 13 in drums?

This is not the axle you were requesting. But it looks more like the unit in the pictures with the addition of Disc brakes.

How bout a 77-81 P30 11,000lb rear axle with the JF9 four wheel disc brakes option. This axle has 13.75" x 1.53" rear Disc Brakes.
The spring perches are narrow like the squarebody Cab & Chassis Dana 70 dually axle so bring your tape measure.

You stated "rear brakes off of a 1981-83 Chevrolet 13 inch rear drum brakes on a 3/4 ton truck or suburban with a semi floating rear end."

I Believe this fits the bill...

9 1/2" axle (14bolt semi-floating axle) from 1979-1984 Illustration book...

The part #s came from the 79-84 GM parts books. Look in the 1973-1991 manuals link in my signature and page down toward the bottom of the first post. You need a pair of books for each year group... the illustration and the parts books. The PDF files are 30-70 meg each.

You use them as follows.
  1. Look up the illustration that contains the part you're trying to find... In this case Axle or Brakes. I used the Axle illustration above in this post on page 5-11.
  2. In the parts listing there will be a GM part # or a section number in the parts book. In this case the backing plate part 34 lists section 5.001 with the part #s.
  3. If there's not a part # in the illustration listing... open the parts book and search for the section # from the illustration. For the backing plate in the example lookup section 5.001. In your case you're looking for the HD brakes with 13" inside diameter drums.

The whole rear end or just the backing plates and drums?

I would like to get rid of the whole thing, it has 4:10 gears and there is nothing wrong with it, I know you only need the brakes/backing plates, let me think about it, too bad you are so far away.

Late 80's & 90's G20 & G30 vans and some C2500 pickups had the 9 1/2" 14bolt axles. Take a walk in the local pick-a-part.

That's your best answer, walk the yards. My semi float rear brakes fit my full floater.

Re: 1981-83 chevrolet 3/4 ton rear brakes?

The 3/4 & 1ton G20 & G30 vans and the GMT400 88-98 CK HD 1500 & LD 2500 through the late 90's used this axle but the backer plates don't have the same part #s as the early 80's units. If they have 90's trucks you will probably find what you want.

EDIT... Sorry.. :exit:
If the early 80's SF 9.5" 14bolt 13" backer plates are what you need... your only plays are to luck into some dusty boxes on some dealer's shelf or get em used.
Either means some legwork.
The FF & SF have different part #s. I provided information based on what was requested. If the FF axle parts will work then you can buy em new. They are in the parts books and they are still available. Look em up.

Umm, did I miss something? I was trying to give the OP somewhat of an option and inform him that the plates can fit semi and full float rears.

Ohhh, now I see after reading my post, it could have been taken out of context. I was agreeing with your post that walking the yards would be the best way to find what he was looking for.
