Factory air shock options
I have an NOS air shock system for my Custom Camper, but I'm wondering if, like the big B-Bodies, there was a system available from GM with a compressor and ride-height sensor.
It'd make a lot of sense for a tow vehicle. Currently I'd need to air it up at a gas station or before leaving home. But I've never seen an automatic load level setup on these trucks, so I don't know if it even existed beyond what I already have. |
Re: Factory air shock options
Back then it was fill at schrader valves in the rear bumper

:agree:
That's what I had. I didn't worry so much about psi as it was all in the stance for looks or clearance...:chevy: BTW thanks for the memory, mine was also behind my pull down tag... |
Re: Factory air shock options
Check this out for your shocks. I have this installed on my truck as we speak.
I did some modding to it though and added a push button to the gauge to operate the small compressor out back instead of the vacuum pump. I also ended up putting a nice small compressor under the truck.:chevy: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1359505499 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1362622968 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...m/DSCF0080.JPG http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=559816 |
Re: Factory air shock options
So was there a Delco PleasureLift (or whatever) setup with a vacuum operate compressor sold as an accessory for our trucks? Or what would your setup have been originally?

Re: Factory air shock options
Mine came for a Caprice Classic that my dad drove as a demo for GM then bought for my mom.
You can find them every now and then on Ebay. Here is one on there now! It's not cheap but it's NOS so he says!:chevy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Unit...BVtTO4&vxp=mtr |

I already have the big red NOS air shocks, which is all this was missing, so together I have the whole system now I think! |

Re: Factory air shock options
This is a old thread but I was thinking this morning. I had forgotten I had this so it will be going in the Ramp truck soon to keep a eye on the air tank I mounted for pumping up tires and such. I want use the vacuum pump though.
Here are some current listings for these on E bay.:chevy: https://www.ebay.com/itm/352097879305 https://www.ebay.com/itm/311922278019 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Remote-Cont....c100005.m1851 https://www.ebay.com/itm/UNITED-DELC....c100005.m1851 |
Re: Factory air shock options
My 65 Caprice came with the optional "Level Air" automatic air ride system.
It uses a vacuum powered air pump under the hood and air shocks on the rear. There's a valve on the upper rear swing arm that controls the air to the shocks.Raises the rear when extra load is applied and lowers the rear when the extra load is removed. All fully automatic. No dash controls. Same or similar system was used on most all other GM fullsize cars in the late 50's and 60's. My 67 El Camino has factory air shocks too.You have to fill them with a schrader valve behind the passenger side seat on the rear dash. Mike.:chevy: |

I ask my daughter was she expecting anything and she said no so I went ahead and opened it. Where these fittings you had left over from back when? I could use a couple of the rubber inserts and ferrell's that go inside the fittings. That's why mine wouldn't ever seal right. I'd be happy to pay for them.:chevy: |
