Hickey on our square bodys

Would like to see other square bodys with Hickey goodies.
Have a bunch of aftermarket on my 73. Not sure if its all Hickey ? PO told me that all these add ons with exception of Diff cover were added to truck 1974-5 by a speed shop in PA.
Front and back truss
Rear diff cover
Push bar
Rear Hitch
Rims, Fire extinguishers, 8track all look like there right out of Hickey catalogue. Even the old lift which was a front helper leaf and 2inch blocks I believe are out of the hickey catalogue. Truck also still has anti-slip strips on rockers that are in catalogue. Also have gas tank and t-case skid plates. Not on truck right now.

Check out this guy's blog post, where he has two 1977 vintage magazine article scans about "Rocky's truck", the GMC shortbed in the old Rockford Files TV series which was, according to one of articles, sprinkled with Hickey accessories.

That's a great article. Rockford files brings back a lot of childhood memories !
James Garner raced a Hickey built 1970 Olds 442 called the Goodyear Grabber Olds in the Baja 1000 in the late 60s. Steve McQueen raced Hickey Built Baja Boot. Hickey also built this off road race truck for McQueen.

Here is mine. It is an old school desert runner. It has Hickey trusses, Hickey dual shock mounts front and rear, hood, add on roll bar supports, Confer under hood tool box, Motalita steering wheel, Hickey steps, rocker guards, push guard, Cibie headlights, Hella air horns, etc, etc. It also originally had the Hickey roof rack and fender flares which I have for it.

Nice score. I'm digging the retro stripes. What is your plan for a grill?

Under hood tool box??
I have never heard of one of those before. Any pics?

I won't have pics for a while as I won't be able to make it to where the Jimmy is until then. I would bet it is the same as the under seat boxes but I will have to do some measuring.

Re: Hickey on our square bodys

I remember the under hood boxes. I also remember other companies making really cool stuff, but all the hype is over Hickey. I had a '72 Blazer chock full of Desert Dynamics parts that most these days would pass off as Hickey just because that's the name so many new to trucks will know. Hooker even made (sold) a bunch of cool stuff for 4wds, like the drop center hoods. They even made roll pans to mount with their double tube bumpers.

I read something about that car once. You look at it and wonder how they planned on even finishing unless it was run on dirt roads.

That Hickey Olds Banshee was a full race machine. The body was downsized to fit the fabricated chassis. This Hot Rod article is very informative to those unfamiliar with the beginnings of off road racing:

That's a different car, according to the article anyway. Thanks for the link, that was the article I was thinking of.

I have tons of other stuff that isn't Hickey. The particular Jimmy that I bought just happened to be loaded with Hickey stuff. There is a lot of Con Ferr as well. The rear axle truss is actually Con Ferr which I have never seen as it has a built in skid plate. It still has the Con Ferr sticker. I plan on using some other companies stuff on the 77 GMC shortbed 4x4 that I am building.

What exactly is the bracket on the tailgate? I purchased a parts tailgate that has one on it as well, i just assumed it was for some kind of aftermarket spare tire carrier?

Do you have pics of the rear shock mounts? I have the front and rear as well but only the crossmember for the rear and would like to see what the mounts look like.

Also maybe a picture of the toolbox? I can barely see the corner of it in your photo above and I'm pretty sure it's the same as mine. I don't think I'm going to mount mine under the hood for space reasons, but maybe underneath the cab below drivers door.

When I get back over there where the truck is, I will try and get some more pictures. It should be within a couple of days. I think my box is shallower than yours height wise but it is hard to tell with yours standing on the side. Mine is actually stamped Con Ferr

dazza 03-23-2016 02:34 AM

Re: Hickey on our square bodys

Mine is 4.5 x 8.5 x 24.125
Other than the Hickey sticker the only marking is stamped super small (had to get out the magnifier) on the latch - "Corbin"

Just picked these up the other day. Hickey off road light brackets. probably wont use them but grabbed them anyway.

Re: Hickey on our square bodys

I wouldn't use those light brackets! I had them on my 74 back in the late 70's....they didn't work good at all!!! Save that windshield frame!!! Don't drill holes in it!!!
