What is the best tire gauge...
 

Need a recommendation for a good, accurate tire gauge.

I have over the years, bought umpteen different styles of tire gauges. From professional ones used on big trucks to small auto parts store ones slider style and round gauge style.

At this time I have one in each of my vehicles (4) and couple of more for my tractor out in the country. Not two register exactly the same. They all differ from one to two or more psi difference. :m6:

I had 3 slider gauges and a round needle style gauge that all read different. I bought a digital one from an auto parts store that said its guaranteed to be + or - 0.5 psi or a certain percentage, whichever is greater. Turns out the digital and round needle type read exactly the same. I'm good with using either of those now.

I buy these in my shop, they are accurate. I also have the analog version for personal use.

Is there a particular brand name on it that you can post?
I don't mind if they read the same all the time, but some of the slider types tend to stick and I'm really not sure if I'm putting in equal psi on the tires.

Wow! That's a little pricey for my use. However, I suppose I could buy just one of these and use it on all my vehicles. Inconvenient but may be the solution.

Those from summit are little more in my price range and one had some good reviews. Probably pick up two -one for the home and another for the farm.

I'm staying away from the $2-$3 ones at the local auto stores. They're just not accurate enough.

If you want accuracy,check out the gauges by Longacres Racing Products. With tire pressure being so critical, that's what a lot of racers use at the track.

Second. The tolerance of a slide type gauge is very poor, but cheap. And generally good enough.

A digital industrial gauge will usually give you the best accuracy. My company could sell you a 60psig digital gauge with a certified calibration traceable to NIST. Got $500? Me neither.

A needle type gauge (bourdon tube) are accurate but will still vary from gauge to gauge unless you paid a lot of money for a high precision, mirrored gauge with zeroing capability.

If you really want to be accurate, use the same gauge on everything and everything will have the same pressure offset (correction factor).

accurate tire pressure is wayyyy overrated to spend more than $10 for one is very foolish// use the simple one one all four tires and have equal pressure and if you want to raide o9r lower it to your driving style

save thew extra money for beer and tell a fib how accurate you r

Looks like I've been sent to the Tools, shop and safety site. Six total viewing at this time.

Reason I posted it in the 67-72 message board to begin with is that I wanted a varied opinion from the large group on an important part of driving to get maximum mpg. Well, so be it. Guess I'll have to trial and error it with the few responses I got.

It gkt moved to tbe appropriate forum. As to tire gauges i use milton tire gauges at work they are pretty accurate.

I use 100 PSI process gauges that I get from work and plumb them up on a short whip with an air hose fitting and a chuck. About as good as it gets.
