Opinions or ideas needed

1 Attachment(s)
I've got my new to me 205 installed, and now I need to figure out just what to do with the drive shaft. The way it sits right now, it's going to hit the cross member that housed the old carrier bearing. The way it sits, it's about a 12 degree slope from the tailshaft to the pinion on the rear end. I figure I have two options, 1 would be to lower the cross-member holding up the tcase, or 2 just modify the cross member to provide some clearance. Any ideas of what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Clearancing the crossmember is going to be a whole lot easier than lowering the t-case.

You should easily be able to clearance and reinforce the modified area on the cross member.

That was my thought too. Thank you Brad!

Some type of driveshaft loop might work.

I skimmed through your build thread and was trying to find where you mounted your engine. Would be a good time to move it forward before the drivelines are built. I know the t-case is already done, but if you convert the rear of the case to a fixed yoke it will all clear without frame mods.

Fixed yoke will fix all your problems

I agree with going to a fixed yoke on the rear of the t-case. It will shorten up the overall length of the t-case, plus it's what these trucks came with anyways.

I was thinking about looking for something like that today.

Well, I moved my motor forward 2 inches already. With the torque splitter installed though, it pushes everything back 5-1/2". I was looking at the fixed yokes today, but couldn't justify buying the kits to do it.

If I can find a fixed yoke at a decent price, then I will probably go that route. If not, I'll just modify the xmember.

Thanks all!!!

How will a fixed yoke change the centerline or angle? The DS will hit that crossmember regardless unless there's a huge lift.
The carrier bearing center would be what 3-5 inches below what it is in the pic if it was still there? My guess is something has been changed and the rear of the TC needs to come way down.

All you need is a rear output shaft, seal retainer, and seal. 100 bucks on ebay.

The fixed yoke does not stick out from the housing nearly as far. This would add quite a bit of clearance without modifying the crossmember. Oh, and yes a lot has changed on this truck LOL. I've added a torque splitter, which adds 7-1/2" between the bell housing and transmission. This truck also came with a T221 TCase. I'm planning on running a one-piece driveshaft.

I think I'll start looking. If I'm going to do it, I only want to build the driveshaft once LOL

And a nut with a flange or a washer

Take a pic of the cenerline of the TC and diff.

Since you moved the engine forward already, even with the fixed yoke you will have notch the member....just not nearly as much. Your drive shaft will probably need to be at least a 2.75'' tube minimum, being a 1 piece

I'll try to snap a pic when I get in the garage today.

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to take it down to the local driveline shop to have them evaluate everything, but they want the body and everything on it so they can measure it correctly.
