Door Window Problem
I am building a 67 GMC for a friend and I have something going on I never had a issue with before we put brand new doors on , new complete windows with metal , new regulator , problem is when you roll the window up all the way the metal tract that is glued to the bottom of window come out of door way to high and if you have window rubber rain sweep and rattling strip inside installed the metal catches on it and wont let the window roll up all the way its like the window is 3/8 inch short but it measured the same as a original I have a couple of solutions but I was wondering if any of you guys ever had issues. Thanks

Never heard of that one. Was the new metal channel on the bottom of the glass deeper than the original one? If the glass and channel are the same height as the originals then the window opening in the new door has to be too tall. I suppose the channels that the window guide rollers fit into could be in a different position than the original ones too. Dunno.... LockDoc |

Do you have a new aftermarket window assembly and door too? How about the window channel inside the upper door frame, is it new? LockDoc |
Re: Door Window Problem
what kind of shape are the rollers on your window regulators? most are shot, wondering if they may be the culprit.....

When you replace everything at once it would be really hard to figure out what part is different from the originals. If a person replaced one part at a time it would be easy to tell. Be sure and post back in this thread when you find out what's going on for future reference..... LockDoc |
Re: Door Window Problem
Door and glass is original, the rubbers are new. It looks like the window is going to high.

Re: Door Window Problem
I have seen this on a truck I helped out with. What we found is the metal track on the bottom of the door glass on the new window was flared out on the top which contacted the window sweeps. The original metal channel was not flared, and would be able to pass by the lower edge of the window sweep. With everything being new that would tighten things up also, less tolerance.

Re: Door Window Problem
I replaced the window channel felts inside and upper.
The outside rubber is snaped to the door, the metal strip from the bottem of the glass is pushing the rubber out of the door. This is the second new set I snaped in. The paint is scrached from the metal clips with hold the rubber. I will post a pic soon. perhaps I can put spacer under the glas in the metal strip what holds the glass. |
Re: Door Window Problem
I had the exact same problem on my 68. I rolled down the window all the way and took a blunt punch and tapped the fuzzy metal a little to force it towards the door metal and away from the window track. Works fine now.
My glass was all original. |
