Recommend a good Positrac unit?

Title about sums it up. Looking to add positraction to my 76 K10 and looking for any recommendations. It has the stock 12 bolt rear end for a half ton and the unit would need to handle the 37" tires I have on it now. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Also would there be any other vehicle or truck produced that would most likely have positraction that would be compatible with my K10. I'm lucky enough to have a junk yard in the family so knowing where to look could save some money.

If you can find a 6 lug 14 bolt semifloat I think it should be stronger than what you have. Not sure how the factory G80 lockers in those are, I know on the 10 bolts they're generally not good but the 14FF G80s are decent.

I was going to say Auburn Gear units are tough, but I think they want you to stay below 33" with tires. That is probably going to be the case with all 12-bolt traction aides.

Not a fan of the Auburn units. Eaton is great as is Yukon which is basically a copy of the Eaton. In fact the Eaton parts will interchange on it. I dont know what the tire size limit is but I think your gearing would have a effect on that.

Eaton/Detroit True Trac. I sent them an email asking the same question for my 86 SW 600hp 496 with the 12 bolt. that is what they recommend without hesitation. I would upgrade your axle shafts though but would'nt be afraid of the 12 bolt at all. Mine has seen multiple passes on and off the bottle with no failures except wearing out the Auburn unit.

Truetracs don't have clutches, so they don't wear out. Pretty much every other LSD out there uses clutches which will wear out over time.

I've had a TrueTrac in my '77 since late August. I ~really~ enjoy it, and it's pretty reasonable/predictable in winter (Canada, eh?!).
