1979 Prototype Hubcaps?

Keith Seymore?
A catch by someone on FB. A 1979 Chevy brochure. First Pic: Looks like Bowtie hub cabs(?) on a 3/4 ton 4x4. Looks like a tall/deep cap instead of the production shallow cap. Maybe a 1 ton 4x2 with matching deep caps? Street tread tires would be a give-away??? I can't really say that I have ever seen a 1 ton 4x2/4x4 with caps. Second and Third Pictures: 1/2 ton 4x4's with auto locking hubs(?) I will say the 3rd pic looks a pretty aggressive tire for a production truck The third pic also shows black around the headlight... Any ideas? |
Re: 1979 Prototype Hubcaps?
Are those are renderings or retouched photos? Wranglers were offered on 2wd trucks back then with those wheels. Those special editions with the stripes came with them. It looks like the spoke wheels are the aftermarket type...plate steel, when the factory used stamped steel. Lots of times brochures show close but not exact production since they are printed pre-production

Re: 1979 Prototype Hubcaps?
The wagon wheels were optional wheels and used the bolt on style rally center caps. The first photo just looks like the pie pan hub caps that came on the standard steel wheels. I think it's just a fuzzy printing.

Existing photos were "airbrushed" to either update content or make modifications to existing content. Sometimes gross errors take place either as a result of the marketeer not really knowing the available options or because of trying to cut corners (like using a readily available car in the photo and then updating to create something else entirely). This results in errors like a straight six 70 Chevelle SS, which of course never existed except in this photographer's imagination. K BTW - I used to approve the brochure and info packets before they were published as part of my job (...so I KNOW mistakes got out!). |
