72 C30 (Motorhome) question, broke down on the road...
Broke down, ya think  1972 Chevy C30 MH, 402BB, 4 speed manual, 42,000 original miles.
I'm out on a buy and drive adventure with my newly acquired rig. 300 miles into a 700 mile trip the clutch pedal has gone limp ( depress it and it stays on the floor) in Clovis NM. I got it going to a hotel by turning it off at stop light and starting it in gear, quite fun :smoke: It's midnight and 30 degrees outside so I didn't do any crawling around. I figured I'd ask y'all your thoughts so when I go out in the morning I will have a few ideas to check out. Is there a clutch master (slave) cylinder? Thanks for the rescue |
Re: 72 C30 (Motorhome) question, broke down on the road...
Sounds like the clutch rod linkage came apart . anything else seems like you would have noticed a change before it would just go to the floor . :chevy:
You can use the LMC truck catalog to see a picture of the linkage set up . |

X2, either a cotter key fell out, or the rod fell out of the fork from having no spring to keep tension on it, or less reason, a rod broke..

x3 and also could be a clip holding the throwout bearing fork to bellhousing , unless someone changed the clutch system it should all be mech linkage no hydraulics

I had a clutch pivot ball break off years ago on a '72 C-10. Maybe you can get lucky and it's something simple.

Re: 72 C30 (Motorhome) question, broke down on the road...
Yeah, all that. It sounds like between the pedal and clutch itself, for sure. My vote would be linkage came apart due to cotter pin. I hope you got a good night's sleep and the weather isn't too bad. Good luck with getting a part. I wonder what members are near Clovis.

Thanks y'all !!!
The nut on the linkage rod backed off. Semi fixed, enough to get going. |

Man..... Clovis, what a place to be stuck in...
Glad to hear you didn't lose the rod and assorted pieces that go with it. |

Made it home, man that 402 is a beast of an engine. Ran between 60-70 and got 10 mpg. Thanks again everyone, this site never ceases to exceed my expectations. |

Problem is I have people already wanting to buy it. |
Re: 72 C30 (Motorhome) question, broke down on the road...
Keep it for a year! If people want to buy it that quickly there will be others. Don't make a 700 mile roadtrip into just a flip if you can keep it a while and have some fun with it.
I assume you're staying in the truck, or are you staying in motels? I'd figure you could be sleeping in the camper as you go... |
