72 Custom Deluxe Door Trim Question
I have a recently purchased a 72 Custom Deluxe SWB with the upper and lower trim option. The drivers door lower trim came with the truck, problem was the trim was laying inside the truck. The drivers door has a hole in the front under the hinge and one at the aft end of the door, no holes in between. Looks like someone use some type of stick on clip to hold the middle of the trim to the door. Needless to say it didn't work. Not knowing the history of the truck, I don't know if someone changed the door in it's life.
Question: should there be holes in the door to mount the trim clips to, and if so how many should be between the front and back holes? i.e. 2, 3? Don |
Re: 72 Custom Deluxe Door Trim Question
Usually there is two holes, one front for a Phillips screw, back one has a stud with speed nut attaching it. The stick on clips in the middle are factory items. They are shaped to fit the channel inside the trim, clip is double sided tape. These are available after market from Classic Industries. Most of the long trim on these trucks are held on the same way.

There is only the two holes front and rear. Studs that mount inside the chrome are installed on each end. No other holes are in between. Plastic tabs with sticky tape that mount inside the chrome strip hold it to the door between the stud.

Re: 72 Custom Deluxe Door Trim Question
Thanks for the response. I thought maybe someone changed out the door. Its good to know that maybe that's not the case. I guess I will be sourcing some new stick on clips.
