quadrajet metering rods
Anyone change these things? I have a brand new carb for an 82 Blazer but it is for a 305 and I just put in a 350. I read in Chevy High Performance that you need to change the metering rods to richen it up for higher displacement. I have an old carb off a 350 and was wondering if I could just switch them out or buy new ones?
Thanks for the help, Slow69 |

If your 350 is stock or close too it , I would try the carb as is , it may work out just fine for your application

edelbrock.com
If you will, go to edelbrock.com, and check out their technical information. They offer a Q-Jet replacement that I happen to have on my '69. The technical section lets you navigate to get the info you're looking for. It should answer your questions.

GM in their great money saving wisdom used the same jets and metering rods on about 5 million different applications...lol. I would not be surprised if you pulled the two carbs apart they had the same rods/jets. How did they do this? Q-jets are super sensitive to float settings. If you have ever bought a q-jet rebuild kit, there is a whole page in the directions with different float settings for different applications...you may need to just raise the float.

thank you. I am breaking the engine in today and didn't want to run it lean. thanks for your help everyone.

The power valve is operated by engine vaccum, so even the primaries are self-compensating for engine displacement to some extent. There are literally hundreds of different metering rods for the Q-Jet with different tapers and different size tips. Edelbrock lists right in there catalog that the same Q-Jet will work on 305 to 454 cubic inch engines.
