1 Attachment(s)
It appears to be 1inch below the jamb vent and at the top and 1/2 inch above the rocket seam at the bottom. Sorry for the sideways pic. Damn iPhone!

Can't you find the holes from the back side? Or, was new metal put in that area?

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
And....if your not using factory Rosette rivets you may have a DMV problem.

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
the real problem is finding the rosette rivits.....

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
They appear serious, at least in Illinois!
"defendant Gary Steffens was found guilty by a jury sitting in the circuit court of McLean County of possessing a rosette rivet which has not yet been attached to, or which has been removed from, the original vehicle, in violation of section 4-103(a)(5) of the Illinois Vehicle Code (Code) (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 95½, par. 4-103(a)(5))." He got two years in prison for it, but conditional discharge. I wonder how they define these special rivets? Like it you make your own with a standard rivet and a Dremel, is that against the law? Not encouraging anyone to do anything illegal or unethical, I'm just curious. Not like these truck are being stolen and re-VIN'd at an alarming rate, so... |
Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
I think you have a big problem. if you reattach the vin plate that is a federal offend could end up doing 5 years in the pen. if you go to the dmv and tell them what you have done to the truck they will inspect it and make you get a rebuilt title and vin plate. so there really is not a good anwser. the body man shouldn't taken it off.and that why he wouldn't put it back on I would say.

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
There has to be more to the story of the guy getting two years for possessing an unused rivet. That's just insane.

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
I guess Ive never looked at the rivets closely ... are the rosettes dark like that on our trucks?

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
No those are late model anodized

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
So if you have to replace a cab, what does one do about a title? You can't transfer a tag from your old one?? I have seen vin tags and titles for sale, are they illegal?

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
I think it depends on the state you are in. I am researching that right now.

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
dmv here says you change in large part (cab, engine, front end etc.) it has to have a rebuilt title.I didn't agree with this they showed it to me in print. I have rebuilt wrecked big truck for years and never had problems, but they didn't know it either .I ask if had a new peterbilt with a cat and something happen to the engine and cat replaced it what would do, they said it get a rebuilt title, if a hood got knocked off rebuilt title. thats nuts. but it's the law (if they know about it)

Re: Need measurements to re-install VIN number plate on door jamb
Guy... Just a warning for you... It is against the law to mess with the VIN tag on a truck... The fact your Bodyman did that put you in a very compromising position...
Now in Discussing the "rosette" rivets you will want to be VERY careful on here as it violates your TOS on this board to willingly give information on acquiring these or supplying any information on how to do anything with this... THe board will not support breaking laws... Trust me I was called out on this a year or so ago by a board administrator when I was asking similar questions... I was told that I could be removed from the board so I immediately stopped... Just my experience so now with that knowledge do what you want... Truck on dudes... Dan |

Guys ... I am closing this thread as sufficient info has been given and this thread is on thin ice. If I am wrong - it will be reopened.
