Ready to freshen up the C-20.

I have been a member for a while but this is my first post.I appreciate all the info and helpful members on the forum. I have a 68' C-20 that I have had for 12 years. The truck was bought new in Delta Junction,Alaska so it has no A/C.It was registered there until 1998. I'm not sure how it ended up in north Texas but I bought it in 2004 for $2,000. It is a factory automatic truck so the rear end must have been changed because the engine runs at 4500 rpm at 55 mph.My plans are to change the engine and transmission.Later I will do a rear end change to make it more highway friendly. This truck has almost no rust so I am way ahead of the game. This will be a budget build but I will do body and paint.I am a 30 year veteran in the body shop.Planning on this being a working truck, not afraid to put it on the homestead.

Sounds like you've got 4.56 gears in that thing. That'll make it scream.

Yeah,I am looking for a rear from a newer truck. I can do the brackets.Probably the best improvement I could make. I drove it to work in north Fort Worth for a month while my wife drove my S-10 and went through almost $400.00 in gas.

Are you sure it is getting into 3rd gear?

Yes.Shifts from first to second at 10 mph and second to third at 20.I am the fourth house on the block and when I leave to go to the store it is in third before I get to the intersection.I live in town. Not far to the stop sign.:(

Same with my 71 manual shift c20. Rear end swap will be done for sure. Screams at 55mph but it'll pull the foundation of a building out from under you.
