newer rear disk brake rear end option??
so as some of you may have noticed i am parting out an '03 yukon xl.
this has a coil spring disk brake 3;73 rear end in good condition and seems to be a lil narrower than the pickups of the same year. now i know id have to change the prop valve and get adaptors for the fittings to the caliper brake lines and change out the mounts, but have any of you gone this route before and how did it work out. Im doing the LS conversion so itd be nice if this went with the conversion |
Re: newer rear disk brake rear end option??
Besides fabrication of the rear suspension to your truck.... width is the only thing I can think of.
I upgraded a 1972 12 bolt rear to disk on my sons k20 using captian fabs brackets, other then the prop valve and some brake line plumbing it was pretty easy. Oh and the e-brake cables. I had to have customs ones made. Not sure if the 2003's will work with your existing cable. You may be able to use the front section of your truck and the rear sections of the 2003 and have custom mid cables made.... that would be easy to do. Hope this helps Scott |

Re: newer rear disk brake rear end option??
What's the width of the 10 bolt VS the original 12 bolt. I have seen a few of those trucks on Craigslist being parted out.

Re: newer rear disk brake rear end option??
The 70 1/2 and earlier width is 62-3/8" from wheel mount to wheel mount.
The 70 1/2 and later (up to about 78 or so) width is 63-3/4" from wheel mount to wheel mount. You can go out and measure yours, and that will give you the difference between them. The park brake should go together, the only thing i'm worried about would be the length. |
Re: newer rear disk brake rear end option??
well im using the 67 stock rear end now which is the shorter one and i'm running 15x10 wheels so im not too worried about the width. worried more about the adaptation
going to be using the ls, 4l60 and driveshaft from all the same doner veh. as the rear end |
Re: newer rear disk brake rear end option??
Oh sorry by that i meant that i was worried about the length of the park brake cable, not the length of the axle, but i see why you got the misunderstanding.

I would like get a custom mid ebrake cable. Front cable is 67 Mid cable custom Rear cables 03. Hope this makes sense. I think the mounts to be relocated probably the worst part of the ebrake. I used www.controlcables.com for my k10 since I rerouted the cables and added rear disks. Scott |
