Brake pressure question

I just replaced 2 wheel cylinders & brakes all around on a 63 non power brakes. We bled all 4 cylinders it builds pressure on ea one, but when I go to step on the brake it slowly go's down once then it builds pressure again. if I let it sit it does the same go's down then builds pressure. any ideas?

Sounds like the master is bad.

Did you replace the master as well ? If so, did you bench it first ?

Traces of a leak down firewall ?

When you say "it goes down" do you mean it goes close to the floor and you can pump it a few times and the pedal comes up ? or that with pressure on the pedal it slowly goes down to the floor?

It goes close to the floor, then you pump it & it builds pressure

How about adjusting the brake shoes back out till they just start to touch? then back a turn maybe

YEP sounds like brake adj is needed and possibly still some air in the system

Re: Brake pressure question

I agree that it sounds like a bad master. It could have an internal leak. My DD '68 had a similar issue. I replaced all the shoes and one leaky wheel cylinder, hoping that might be it but I still ended up replacing the master. Now I have good brakes.....well as good as manual drum/drum brakes can be.

I'll start with the adjustment & hope that does the trick, If not proceed with the master.
Thanks guys
