had spares that have been awful for years bought some correct C & D NOS blanks and some rings to match my ole blue truck :metal:

Those blanks aren't that easy to find any more. I'm like you, I don't like the generic keys. Last time I found some of those I bought a few extra.

They were much needed! Just hope the guy are Lowe's cuts them right tomorrow.

I wouldn't count on Lowe's to cut them keys. A true locksmith isn't going to be much higher then them.

X2, Don't take them to Lowes. A locksmith can "read" the pattern and cut it fresh into the new blank. The key will fit the lock cylinders tight when he gets done. The machine that hardware stores use that traces one key and grinds it into the new key puts all the wear and tear into your new key.

Went to the dealership and they couldn't get key codes past 92-93 think he said.

So…I go to ACE hardware and explain to a guy how I would like to have these blanks cut but not from the old worn out one… he directed me to another guy who was cutting keys at the time actually and said "if anyone can he can"

I asked if he could simply look at the original and see the key code (think theres 1-5 codes) and cut the blank to match as I would start with a fresh key as my switch isn't worn much and should work.

I got a STARE of being lost so I explained it again and got the reply "when we trace this one (my original) it should work" I explained why I didn't want to do that AGAIN. At this point he replied "so you're saying these blanks have a sensor in them?" I was blown away and just said "cut the keys…"

WOW the guy looked about 40 and cuts keys every day and didn't understand what I was telling him at ALL.

This blanks must not have been that hard to find, since you still went ahead and had him cut them. Hope they worked out for you

What should I look when buying blanks for my 1986 C10? I would like them for the door and ignition. Will any GM blank work? Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah it's best to go to a locksmith to have the keys cut. I worked in a hardware store for some time and the standard key machine all those places use just follows the outline of original key and transfers the pattern onto the blank.
