1972 Gmc Jimmy Wire Identification

2 Attachment(s)
So, I am cleaning up some wiring in the engine compartment and came to a purple wire that was spliced into a red wire that runs to the starter. Can anyone tell me what their purple wire runs to, this doesn't seem right? Please see attached pictures. Also, where the red and purple wires are spliced, there is a green wire and a black wire that are cut, does anyone know where these are supposed to run to? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sandtrap, not to put you off, but I don't know the answer to your question. But, I do know that if you drop down into the electrical section there is a colored wiring diagram of the entire wiring harness. I will follow along to make sure you get it sharpened out. Please post a follow up, so I can see where you ended up

To many whiskies to type

Purple wire comes from the starter switch (hot on start) then goes to the neutral safety switch at the bottom of column, and then goes to the solenoid on the starter. My guess is that the original wire got damaged because it's near the exhaust, so the previous owner spliced in the new red wire.

I tried to find out, but since my truck is a 70 it's a bit different. I have a feeling it may be for emission controls but I'm not sure, sorry.

Green wire looks like the temp sender wire. As for the black one, you'll have to trace it back and see where it goes. If it goes into the bulkhead connector, post a pic of where and we can figure it out from there. I would also trace the green one to make sure it goes to the bulkhead too, it's just with that aftermarket wire loom you never know what a previous owner could have put in there.

Mine had a TCS (transmission controlled spark) module but most of the components were missing. It came out about where you were talking about. I redid my wiring and eliminated this stuff.
