Parts you lost or rid of, and maybe shouldn't have

1. Perfectly great in bed tire carrier. I threw it away.

2. Chucked the chromed blue bow-tie hub caps. Two were thrashed, but the other two were good enough to keep, if only for a reference.

3. Chucked the camper mirrors. They were in nice shape. Wouldn't use anyway.

4. Chucked the saddle tanks. They were leaking. Not much rust around here and maybe they could have been restored, but I wouldn't use them anyway. The doors were nice. The bed has been replaced (no doors).

5. Sold the rear step bumper for $40 long ago.

6. Lost the original valve covers when the engine was rebuilt in 1993. Heat stove lost as well, and possibly some spark plug shields.

Other than the tire carrier, I can't complain much.

Before I knew any better I trashed the 67 wing windows I pulled out of the kids truck. They were not in the greatest shape and I had chrome 68-72 to put in it. But I still kick my self for doin it.

Pretty much gave away the power steering brackets from my 72 w/250 engine before knowing how much they were really worth

I don't sell or throw away much of anything. (just ask my wife...:).. But I have a 50x50 barn to store it in. I have saved a bundle of money by having the parts I need instead of having to go out and buy it on short notice. I am going to have a lot of stuff to sell when I quit working on the '67-'72 trucks....

I have never thrown a good part out. I do the opposite, I gather parts in case I might need them. I'm in it for life and have had the foresight to know that which people toss today only makes that which survives more valuable...whether monetarily or out of need. In fact, I take people's parts that they are tossing. My only regrets are selling what parts and trucks I have had to. I never wanted to sell any of it, but life changes forced it. What kills me the most is I sold stuff for reasonable prices and now that greed has entered the picture those same parts have doubled, tripled, or more (over night), and it's not because I sold too cheap.

When it comes to old truck and car parts hindsight is 20/20. Stuff we used to give away now has value. Stuff that had value is now bringing very good money. I see hammered buddy buckets going for ridiculous prices, 8x15 6 lug wheels have jumped on the high price band wagon, hubcaps too lol. But that's just the way the market goes.

I do see guys here on the board selling stuff that there is no way they are making much if any money, especially when you have to ship. Those are true truck hobbyist brothers.

But I don't fault the people that are out to make money either. For some this is there lively hood, and heck we need to make money to support out truck addiction too =)

I would be pretty cool to have a set up like LockDoc though. How cool would it be to go out to the barn and be able to look through stuff you kept since you were practically still a kid. I love it when he posts pics of his stuff.

Only things I really think back about were the nos rockers and cab corners. They were just taking space in the garage. Probably should've kept them...but oh well. Cab corners got sold to a member here, probably on a truck now

No kidding, 50x50 barn? At this point I'd be thrilled with a 4-car garage.

I can't say I've thrown anything away. What I do regret is the number of things I have not taken from junkyard trucks... bucket seats, consoles, the 6 cylinder power steering brackets mentioned above, etc. I don't have a barn yet, but am thinking seriously about building one that'll be 36'X63'. I bought the lot across the road for it a couple years ago.

Threw away my tank carpet after ordering a new one. New one doesn't have the oblong copper rivets and is not formed. Should have kept the old one, of course.

Blasphemy!!!

Leave the disposal to your estate! My wife lives in fear that if I go first she'll throw something away that's worth big bucks and I'll be rolling over in my grave.

Dog Dish hub caps, steel wheels giving to a friend, spare tire carrier, 2 dash gauge panels.

The list goes on and on.

I aint throwing nothing away now. So guys on this site have been kind enough to sell me some stuff at reasonable prices. That is what I will be doing in the future.

Since i have been twisting wrenches all my life i cant think of how many "parts" i have thrown away like all the AM radios and air cleaners etc,,,The worst are the things i have sold and regretted like a 59 vette,,fuelie unit for a 62 vette ,70 340 4 spd Dart swinger. I also regret not buying the things i should have got and didnt... although i knew at the time i should have..... Now i but to many things and drag home to many projects....

Found in the ancients scripts(barn find!), the Bowtie Buddha teaches:

With a justifiable addiction as such, one must retain balance with the formidable foe known as CSW. Dismiss the Could've, Should've, and Would'ves, saving them for future souls that currently retain the riches of your desires.

Re: Parts you lost or rid of, and maybe shouldn't have

I just spend over 500 dollars at the Brothers truck parts catalog on a bunch of parts for my 70 k-20... Almost everything I purchased I either gave away at one point or sold for dirt cheap.
The thing I am most upset about was a set of dog dish hubcaps from a 67, getting rid of my entire 68 parts truck with a bed full of parts doesn't bother me as much as getting rid of those dog dish caps..

I gave away a bunch of Cheyenne interior parts, and they were at least used for a nice truck so that helped...

By the way if anyone else is giving parts away... I game!!
