Hi everyone, my name is Brian, I'm 48 and I have too many projects. AND I now have a new "Never Ending Project".

A 1964 K10 v8 4 speed Suburban followed me home last week. It seems pretty solid, and more importantly, I have the wife's blessing on this one....She saw me looking at the ad and told me to go get it before it sells because it will make a great dog hauler. (We have 3 large dogs):lol:.

It has a replacement 350 in it, but otherwise it seems to be pretty original. It is however missing pretty much all of the interior. Bla Bla Bla...on to the pics

Thanks DP. We are not all that far apart as far as TN goes. We have season passes to Dollywood so we get out your direction several times a year.

I hope to get a spot cleaned out in the shop and get a good look at this rig next week. The general plan is to work out any mechanical/electrical bugs and put her to work as a shop truck...... and slowly purdy her up.

Hey, welcome from a '66 big dog hauler. There's 3 Mastiffs peaking out of mine! I'm trying to figure out a portable dog hauler step setup.

If you are interested in an original set of seats, let me know. I am removing mine to put in something more modern and with built in safety belts for the kiddos. If you are I can post some pictures.. I have the front seats with sliders and the rear seat. They need to be reupholstered though.

NICE and thanks! I have a 149lb Anatolian Shepherd, a 125lb rescue Great Dane, and a 110lb rescue mongrel that looks mostly Black Lab. They all love truck rides. One however has not liked being in a suv. I hope having more room and accessible windows will be better for him. I will need that ramp/step myself.

Thanks Rodney, I will keep you in mind. Someone put an old Fleetwood bench in it:lol: , but it also came with fullsize blazer buckets, console and back seat piled in the back. Between being busy and bad weather, I have not even unloaded the thing off the trailed yet. I hope to be able to evaluate everything pretty soon.

Kool find I like the K models to I had a 70 Burb 4x4 a few yrs back and sold it...I now have a 64 4x4 truck that I've been working on, Congrats on your find, I like them Burbans.

I have been searching the form for paint codes, but I can't seem to find 91640 anywhere. Any Ideas????

I have not started any cosmetic/rust repair yet, but I did sand a spot and found off white or grey or grey primer under baby blue.

I have found some usable wheels, ordered tires, replaced all driveshaft u-joints, wheel bearings, steering drag link, and sway bar link ends. Hope to drive it some soon to sniff out/fix any other mechanical issues it may have.

GM painted the trucks a special color for Government and the Military, and, if the client ordered I believe 6 or more trucks, their corporate color would be applied at the factory. Government and Military trucks could have had additional stickers inside the cab sometimes indicating who was authorized to operate the truck.
The standard paint code system had a 3 digit base color starting with a 5 then the next two digits defined the actual color. If it was two tone generally they added 30 to the two digit part to indicate the change to two tone. An example would be 522 for a base color Gray, Georgian. If the truck was optioned two tone the number changed to 552.
DuPont was the paint supplier to GM and according to the 63 Truck Data Book the code from DuPont for Grey, Georgian was 93-77784.

I see the radio opening has been carved, any other strange holes or parts added that you don't see on other burbs?

A 5600lbs GVW rating indicates that this burb was ordered with 17.5" wheels and tires.

Google search shows a DuPont paint code of 93-91640 Fleet Gray for FORD also labeled GSA gray for Willys also labelled Federal Grey. I'm not familiar with US Government vehicles but would the Navy not have their vehicles painted grey. Going out on a limb here.

Thanks arrotruk, I felt it might be a govt/military but cant prove it yet. It does hare a crazy rear view mirror mounted inside, a fabricated looking hitch with diamond plate steps, as well as some odd rubber hose sections mounted under the floor/ along the frame. It also has dark tinted windows all around (except the windshield). Not the film tint, its the tint laminated into the safety glass.
I will snap a few pics of the nonstandard stuff when I get a chance.

Are there any holes in the floor in back of the seats? Could have been equipped with an auxiliary heater.

It looks like you were right on a few counts Areotruk. It has holes for the aux heater, and it has 4 holes in the center of the roof for possible light of some sort. It also has had a vent cut into the roof sometime before it was painted blue. Here are a few pix of said items, plus strange mirror, rubber hose pieces under truck, and with new tires and wheels........

So the rubber hose diameter beside the frame looks rather large for an auxiliary heater or is that simply a camera perspective affect?
The holes in the rear floor look like the right size however for an additional heater.

I think the hose under the floor (aprox 2"i.d.) is unrelated to the aux heater. Possibly holding aux power/hydraulic cable/lines to the rear for some reason???

I do feel this was a D.O.D. or possibly an Army Corps of Engineers vehicle once upon a time. I will attempt to request info from a state B.M.V. when I get a chance.

Well, (BIG EXPLETIVE), that's disappointing! It looks like I will be attempting to make some channel next week....I just wish it was only the straight section missing.:waah:

I have a truckload of rubber products ordered and I was checking to see what a mess I have going on. It looks like all 4 are going to be in similar condition, but this is the only one I pulled out for inspection...

So it's not pretty, but with a bit more work, I think it can be saved....

The roof vent looks like an aftermarket unit. I had one like that in mine then went to the higher smoke colored plastic one, then got rid of it all together. It was 14"X14" and I had a steel plate welded into the hole. I like the rwar view mirror though. I bet you get a good view of everything beside and behind you.

I agree that the vent is an add on, it has been there a long time tho.

The mirror is ok, it is mounted a bit high to have a good view out the back. IF it stays I will add lowering arms to the mounts.....we will see

I have been having trouble sourcing radiator support mounts like the ones on my truck. Search results have shown another type of mount, however it seems to require the part of the mount that I am missing. I can make a bracket. but would like to find some OEM type mounts.

I have verified the "government gray" special order color is under the fenders as shown in the pics.

I am not a fan of the light blue currently on the truck, my wife has rejected the original gray. Looking at color chips she wanted to see a sample of the Sea Mist Jade metallic, so after acquiring a small sample and carelessly slapping it on the truck the final color is approved. It will be sea mist jade, and she has named the beast........"The HULK" :lol:

While I'm waiting on glass to be cut, I installed my Steele rubbers into the vent window assy. WOW, it's nice stuff, if the rest of it fits this nice, I'll say it was easily worth the extra $$$. I will report further as I continue with my new seals. So far, I am very pleased with the product.

those rubber insulated front rad mounts were only on suburbans and panels. more than likely to compensate for the more secure mounting of the longer body style of the suburban and panel over the shorter standard cab of the p/p. to give the front end a little more flex
