Has anyone done my car alarm research for me?
 

I don't need anything too fancy, but I would like:

- Starter interrupt @ the starter, since these are so trivial to hotwire
- Support for keyless entry

Pretty much every alarm in the world supports that, so if someone has one they like or did the research, I'd appreciate it.

I don't need it to talk, false alarm, or add other annoyances to my life.

I wound up going with a Viper 2-way that has remote door lock and remote start as well. With no electric fuel pump it's pretty hard to have a "kill" circuit that can't be trivially circumvented.

Now I realize I forgot to add a hood pin, which I should do so you can't just open the hood and remove the siren/horn :-)

Dave, don't get a pin, get a mercury switch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-PACK-NEW-O...MAAOSwpDdVXNKx That way you just mount it to the underside of the hood & when the hood is raised it will set off the alarm. I run one on my son's Nova and it works great. And you don't have to try and figure out a place to mount a switch where it will look good.

Viper is a good brand, falls under the DEI mother company. They bought out several alarm companies years ago and also carry Clifford & Python to name a few. I have a Viper 2-way myself for my truck and one in my son's Nova, great alarms.

Remote start, now that sounds like something worth the money to spend. Just turn the heater on the night before, and by the time you get outside to drive it's nice and warm. Is that hard to install?

Should be easy on these trucks! On modern vehicles you need special immobilizer modules that sometimes require a whole spare key & fob, but for ours you need a flat blade screwdriver to start them, so it should be easy.

I only bothered because I have AC, so why not?

I also want the door lock feature so I don't have to lock it with the key every darned time I get out of the truck.

Leave an empty holster on your truck seat, so the guy stealing has to believe that you are around with the weapon on you.

I used a Viper Two way ($100 online) and DEI-524n High power door lock actuators($13.99 each) for the door locks. The 524n kit has everything you need to make the locks work. No need to buy that $100 kit that consists of a unnecessary solenoid mount plate. The 524n actuatory are strong so they will easily unlock our locks, they are a bit loud. I had to install door jam switches because my 68 didn't come with them from the factory. I will also be installing a jam switch to the hood and connecting it up to the alarm's trunk input so my engine bay will be alarmed.
