1962 C10 Crossmember swap
This will be my first ever build and have never really worked on a car so knowledge and skills suck but im trying to learn as much as possible. I recently bought a 1962 c10 for about $300 with no motor or tran. The car seems to be in ok shape and has certain cab areas with rust that will need fixing. I want this to be a solid truck with mean power. My friend will be helping me with this who has a lot more experience with cars. Right now I am planning to start off with the frame and go from their. I want to have disc brakes and bags in the front. I have been reading about swapping out the front suspension with later models that you bolt on. Are there detail steps in doing this? Someone on here did this with a 87' suburban and said worked out. Before I go to junk yard just wanted to see or ask if there was anything specific to look out for or to get from the donor car and if it just need to be a complete crossmember or anything else with it. Last thing what is an fair price on a complete crossmember.

Re: 1962 C10 Crossmember swap
Take some time to read the FAQ section above and that should give you most you answers. There is a section on the disc brake swap. You can also use the search at the top right to look at other threads for this swap. The question comes up pretty often.

I have a 66 c10. I used an 86 suburban front end. It literally bolts up perfect. You just have to drill a couple holes on each side rest match up. Any c10 from that time will work. You can get just the cross member full assembled for $100 all day from junk yard.

Make sure you get it all, Brake booster and Proportion valve, that goes with the front brake setup your swaping into. here's a link to read.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=356070

It's not quite as easy on the '60-'62 frames. There are several more holes to drill.

Re: 1962 C10 Crossmember swap
Does anybody have experience doing these swaps? I have a 62 c10 also and I plan on removing the factory crossmember and swapping in one from a 67-72. I'm wanting to bag the truck and from everything I have read, this is the easiest way to bag these c10s with the torsion bar setup. Is all that is required just drilling 2 or so bolt holes on either side?

Re: 1962 C10 Crossmember swap
I did this swap recently on a 1960. As captainfab said not as easy as later frames though it works good. $PAID 150.00 for all at a recycler and used basically only the crossmember and spindles .Changed out all the parts for new and it is bagged with some Porterbuilt parts. There are also other that have documented the swap on the forum.
