fuel pump question for 88 model 5.3 ls swap
I'm about to do a 5.3 swap on a 88 Chevy Truck but I would like to keep the fuel pump in the tank if possible, has anyone ever done this if so what fuel pump is it that you used, part # or any suggestions would help, I don't think the tbi fuel pump will put out the pressure required for ls

Re: fuel pump question for 88 model 5.3 ls swap
I've done it. You just need to swap the in-tank TBI pump with a pump from an LS truck. It should drop right into the old hanger assembly.
A stock TBI pump won't work. They only run about 12 psi, and you need 58 with an LS |

Wasted income is spot on. Your 88 is a return system that can be utilized again if needed.

AC Delco ep381 should be a direct swap. I used the same fuel pump for my 5.3/4l60e swap completed on my 1987 c10. It was a tbi driver also.

here is what i did on the fuel lines at the motor... kept the stock tbi braided lines under the truck... and used the ls fuel lines at the engine. yes its compression fittings, and no i have never had a failure with them. i use them on alot of pressure lines with no problem.

Where did you get that set up from?

Compression fittings work great for fuel system stuff. Used them many times, never a problem.

Re: fuel pump question for 88 model 5.3 ls swap
The most recent review for that pump says that "they didn't send me a 381, its an inferior Chinese generic replacement pump" ....so might be worth being a little careful.

Brew makes a good point ... doing a search on Amazon for the AC Delco part number brought up a fuel pump that looks nothing like the on in the ebay ad.

Re: fuel pump question for 88 model 5.3 ls swap
can you please share a link to a proper GM/delco picture of the fuel pump? I have not been able to find a gm/delco supplied photo to use for comparison against my actual ebay purchase mentioned above.
thanks |
