Looking for reviews and opinions on carb rebuild companies. I am not in the position to rebuild my own and I read reviews and opinions that vary A LOT!!! Everyone on this forum has trucks like I do, Y'all are the people that know. Any strong opinions on good vs bad and the ugly????

I had Sean Murphy Induction build my q-jet last year and I'm real happy with it. The rebuild price was better than Jet and my turn around time was good.

I did have a no fuel issue that was probably related to me letting it sit for a couple of months with today's crappy fuel but, regardless, they warrantied it without question. Great customer service.

I got a rebuild from National Carburetor for about $200 (as I recall.) The first one they sent me had a stripped thread on the back of the base plate where the vacuum line connects. I sent it back and they sent me one that had an OK thread (don't know if they just replaced the base plate or gave me a different carburetor.) Their lead time was about 5 weeks - they said they did not start on a carburetor until they got an order. I did not send them in my old carburetor for a rebuild.

I passed emissions OK with the second carburetor.

I was getting very bad gas mileage with the new carburetor (got 11 city on the old one, only 7 city on the new one.) I don't drive the truck much. Recently, I filled up both tanks and ran them low and filled them up again. This time I got about 11 mpg, so I guess something changed in the carburetor or elsewhere to improve the gas mileage. I have an 83 C20 454 2WD.

I wanted the cheapest carburetor I could get to pass emissions, and this carburetor satisfied that requirement. Sean Murphy was $425 for my Qjet, but I don't drive my truck enough to justify the extra cost. I will say that the carburetor does perform well in terms of starting and acceleration. It is not plated factory correct - has a lot of silver paint sprayed parts, but I still have the original carb in the shed if I ever want to do a factory restoration.

Guaranteed Carburetors in Largo, FL will correctly rebuild your carburetor. They actually flow test it somehow before they send it back. This means they set things like the idle mixture and idle settings before you get it. It's literally ready to bolt on your truck and drive.

They did two for me in the past month.

Or they'll sell you another carburetor that will work on your vehicle if you'd rather do it that way. They will ship you a new one right away and the best part is they don't charge you a core deposit as long as you agree to return yours within three weeks.

All right! Good places to start. I also am going to check with The Carburetor Shop in Minneapolis Minn. I checked with Edelbrock (my carb) and they don't rebuild but they send all they rebuilds up to Minneapolis. With a few good names, now it falls to price!!!! I am excited to get this done. It has bothered me for long time!!!

If it's a GM factory carb, you might want to check with Jon at the Carburetor Shop. He really knows his stuff.

I picked up a rebuilt Q-Jet a few years back. I'm not sure if they still do it, but I got mine through Acklands -Grainger. At the time I was working for a large oil company that had a contract with Acklands. They would sell employee's parts/acc. and give you the company discount. (which was close to 50% off retail) I believe the brand was "Autoline" . Worked great.....

I also bought a rebuilt Q-jet for my 86k10 short stepside from Guaranteed Carburetors in Florida. All I had to do was bolt it on. Works great as far as starting idle etc. I have not had to do any additional tuning to it.

I highly recommend them

I paid 208.00 with shipping to Colorado with a lifetime warranty and Guaranteed Carb. paid the return shipping on the core

I can recall exactly, but think it was a little close to $300 with tax. Probably a little higher priced where I'm from. "Autoline" is probably an American company, and the folks up north always get nailed on exchange/shipping.
