Door dome light switches

Are our trucks supposed to have dome light switches linked to the doors opening? My driveway is pitch black and this would be nice. If not OE I could just add.

I was thinking of doing this with my truck. I'd get some button switches from a junk car and the wiring and see if I could hook them into the light

is there a better step by step ? because he fails to mention how he ran the wires up to the dome light as in how to keep them hidden ? i would hope he didn't leave the wires showing .. but i dont see any way fo fish the wires in the cab up to the dome light . so need some ideas on how to wire into the dome light wires without wires being exposed ? You don't need to run the new wires all the way up to the dome light. The existing dome light circuit has 2 wires. There is an orange wire that is a constant 12V feed and a white wire that is a switched ground. The stock setup has the white wire going to the headlight switch which grounds it (to complete the circuit and turn on the light) when you turn the knob all the way counterclockwise.

The added door pin switches also complete the circuit to ground when the door is open. So their wires can simply be spliced into the dome light's existing white wire at any convenient location. Like under the dash near where the white wire connects to the headlight switch for example.

I just have a manual switch on the dash for mine. That works good enough for me.
