fuel pump problem
truck I bought last year has a motor with no fuel pump rod hole. Wanted to know if anybody makes a in tank pump for cab mounted tanks. Thinking of mounting a 2000 or newer tank under the bed as I don't want to listen to an electric pump mounted to the frame. Any help or ideas appreciated!:waah:

Re: fuel pump problem
In-tank is generally the quietest but probably not when it's in the cab right behind you...
I have the same problem (in a car) with the GenV block and wound up with a holley blue pump mounted to the frame, but as you note, further back. I think that's probably your best option. Isolate the pump well from the frame. I was looking at a Mitsubishi pickup truck engine mount that was two plates of about 2x2" steel sandwiched with a rubber insulator between them. I think it'd be -perfect- for mounting a pump like yours. Probably any rubber isolation mount would work, if you have a junkyard to prowl. |
Re: fuel pump problem
I have heard of people using a off the shelf universal electric fuel pump mounted in the frame under the cab. Supposedly you can hardly hear it. I would think if you could mount it with some sort of rubber cushions that would be the case.

Re: fuel pump problem
Now that I've said it above, for a stock small block you won't need a blue pump, I'm sure a red would do, and maybe they're quieter. You almost certainly don't need some 255L/hr monster!

Re: fuel pump problem
I have a Holly red pump mounted back under a 51 chevy . I cant hear it when engine is running but it has about 7lbs of pressure . I wish I had used a Carter model p4070 less fuel pressure and cheaper . You can get them at most parts stores.

Re: fuel pump problem
Check out AEROMOTIVEINC.com. They make in-tank fuel systems for any tank. Even with vent and return lines, if you want to upgrade later to one of them EFI-Systems that are all the rage right now....
