Stepside steps brackets?

I recently bought a 1969 shortbed stepside and it's missing the steps. I know brothers trucks sells the steps but is there a bracket that mounts the steps or how do they mount to the bed? I'm very new to these trucks and the previous owner routed exhaust in front of the rear tires and took the steps off. I would like the footsteps back on it. any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

I know there is brackets that come down off the very front bed cross sill that go under the front of the step and the rear of the step bolts to the lip of the fender

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

Any idea if there are reproduction parts for that bracket? My truck does not have any brackets hanging down just step"less" look with exhaust coming out in front of wheels.

I have til June to find the bracket, install it , redo exhaust , and lower this thing. Ha.

There was a post hear a while back asking the same thing, he had a manufacture that was willing to reproduce them but he needed someone to loan them a donor set, not sure if it ever panned out.

I was in on that post and it was me that loaned Tim the steps to have repro'ed. The last I heard they were in the middle of tooling up so there should be some on the market in the very near future.

I took some pics of mine.

This is the right side step and bracket. Im not sure if anyone makes them (Im guessing not). As you can see the rear of the step connects to the fender and the Bracket goes under the step in the front . the bracket is attached to the bedside at the top.(actually its been almost 4 years since I took mine off----it might be the cross sill that they attach to at the top-----Ill find out before long!!)

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

Those brackets might be the kind of thing that could be found on craigslist-----Im not sure Ive ever seen any advertised but ya never know. I do a nationwide search for stuff sometimes and come up with things that aren't around here. Might have to pay shipping but-----if you can find them------

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

if you go into the parts board and do a search for step side steps, there's guys that have them, I'm dealing with a guy a guy right now on a passenger side step and brace. the top bolts are carriage bolts and the bracket to cross sill are body bolts. craigslist is very hit and miss. you can get the steps new from lmc, fillingstation, brothers truck parts, pretty much anywhere that sells repop 67-72 parts you can get the step.

Did your step get dropped at some point? That entire flange should be at 90* to the bedside. You're going to have some difficulty bolting that back up without damaging the paint :(

Best pics I could find of mine:

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

LMC and The Filling Station both sell the repop steps but not the brace. Just FYI

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

Like said nobody does the brace YET Tim [forum name Tim Christian]is high up at KEY parts and they are the ones doing the step bracket. I was just fortunate enough to see the post about stepside brackets and a guy was looking for some and Tim said that there were not being reproduced. Then he said if some one had a set that was good they didn't need at the moment he could have them made. So I sent him a PM then a day or two later I had boxed up the steps and off to be copied they were. After those hit the stores I'll probably crack a smile every time I see them in the catalogs. Jim

Re: Stepside steps brackets?

It wasn't that long ago that even the fenders and steps were not available for stepsides.

This step has already been replaced--it had a dent in the outside edge that I didn't get completely out----didn't really see how bad it was till after paint. A guy locally had a step bed for sale cheap with excellent steps, so now I have a spare bed that's going to have one shiny red step on it!!

I had a question for you stepside owners..
Just how strong are these steps?
I'm a pretty big guy.
6'2" and about 210 pounds.
Is that bracket up to the task?

J.

Mine get load tested for about 315lb. every time I polish the roof of my '71 GMC. They feel real solid. ... wish the steering wheel was a little farther from the seat though.
