283 V8 Oil Pan without Baffled
2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have a 1966 C10 with the 283 V8. Now i want a new oil Pan. The one i would buy is not Baffled (picture). Is this a big Problem ? My original steel Pan is baffled. Thank you all verry much. Greetings from Germany. Nils |
Re: 283 V8 Oil Pan without Baffled
If you plan to drive it hard a baffled pan is better as it keeps the oil around the pickup. The pan you show does have a plate in it to slow the oil down from running forward. For the 283 it should be fine for just a cruiser. Do a check to see how far off the bottom of the pan your pickup is when you put it on.

Thanks Jimmy,
I think about it and maybe a Oil Pan with a higher oil capacity is better. I search and what do you think about the Oil Pan from Moroso ? |

The moroso pans are well made. Have run several over the years. For a stock engine you really dont need the extra oil but it wont hurt it.

Re: 283 V8 Oil Pan without Baffled
Hi Jimmy,
thank you for the fast answer. Do you know a nice oil pan with more oil capacity, Baffled and have the same sump high / size like the original so i can use the standard pickup ? Thank you verry much. Nils |
Re: 283 V8 Oil Pan without Baffled
You need to measure the one you have. Most of these type of pans work fine with the stock pickup. Moroso will tell you if you need to use a specific pickup with tone of there pans.

Re: 283 V8 Oil Pan without Baffled
ThatMoroso is a VERY nice pan. I use it on everything that doesn't warrant a fabricated oil pan. IMO it is a wise WISE choice over the cast aluminum pan. I have never seen one of those finned aluminum cast pan that didn't leek like crazy.
ONE issue you just need to be aware of....,, your 283 (if original 66) is a thin front seal for the truck pan I believe. When you order a pan gasket you will need to make SURE the new gasket is the THICK front pan gasket,,, not the thin. |
