Where to get paint
 

Years ago, I bought a can of spray paint that was very close to "Medium Olive", and used it for a bunch of touch ups. Now a days, any time I am in a store that sells spray paint, I search for my color, but have no such luck. I cannot, for the life of me, remember the brand, but it may have been DupliColor. Any ideas out there?

The medium olive I believe is "504" paint code. Hit your local auto parts store up, they should be able to mix some up in a rattle can for $20 or so..

You won't find touch-up for colors not currently or very recently used. Your best bet is having it mixed, as suggested above.

Yep, it's looking that way.
On another note, this question is for the paint gurus.
What color primer is the best under medium olive color? (Gray, black, red, green)
The reason for the question is because I want to spray my truck with a graduating color coat, starting with full color, then changing the mix of color and clear by a 10% ratio each coat (I.E. 90/10, 80/20, 70/30,.....end with 100%clear).
The end goal is "depth" of the paint when you look at it up close.
I haven't tried this since I was in High School when I painted a car with Candy Apple Red, and I remember using Light Green primer for the depth.

Primer color to the most extent is not gonna change the final color. The factory used both red and black on the same trucks. The thing your wanting to do is fine but go with three colors first to cover the primer.Once a coat or two is on the color "depth" as you call it can start being achieved by slowly adding in the clear. I would try like 25% gradations color 75 clear 25 the first coat then 50 50 the next then 75% clear on the next then the last two would be the clear only. I have played with it but did not see much differences, it may have just been the color.
The guys on one of the Nashville shows did that it may have been the one Kevin Tetz was on.

I like to tint primer, but light grey is the most neutral

Thanks both. I did figure on testing before I spray the truck. I haven't painted a vehicle in 30 years, so I have to develop my skills again. I used to be pretty decent, and now that I have the time again, I can get good at it again

not sure which paint suppliers do this, but I have heard some will actually mix and supply your paint in spray cans (Spray Bombs/Rattle cans) might look into that, if it's only touch up issues...

I was hoping for a couple cans for touch ups in the cab, but when the time comes, I'm just going to buy the green, clear, and do the mixing myself. Thanks to all for the input

i thought that mixing the paint with clear only worked with lacquer and you had to wet sand and buff between coats . I have tried with the modern stuff and never got the same effect

I have the 1970 version of "Medium Gold" (Option Number 526) and I have had better luck just at a Hobby/Art store like Beverly's here in Calif or Michael's (the big box art & craft store); and they have bottles of Acrylic Lacquer for $3 and many varied shades of that kind of metallic Gold.. This is just for touch-up of course. The ones I find at OReilly's and Autozone and Napa haven't matched for me as well because my paint has faded.

For large amounts but even as small as a quart I would suggest (SPI) Southern Polyurethanes Inc. - family owned & lots of Soul.

See, that's why I like this forum so much. As I said before I haven't painted anything in a long time, like since 1984. I'd be willing to bet it would be hard to find someone who knows how to paint with Imron. It looks like I'm going to be asking a few of the shops around here what they suggest. I'll keep y'all posted.
