Leaf Spring Swap For Daily Driver
I have a '72 C/20 that has an H072 rear and the stock leaf springs. Because of parts availability and other factors, I was looking into swapping out that setup for a complete 14bolt/leaf springs out of a mid-2000's truck.
I have two questions that I can't seem to find info on: 1. I need to know the overall width of a 2000's 14 bolt, as well as the length between the leaf spring pads. 2. Building new brackets for the longer/newer leaf springs is no problem for me, but has anybody used mid-2000's springs on our trucks and felt any difference in ride quality? I know I could just swap out a 14 bolt from the junked '73 C/20 I have pretty easily, but I am wanting a smooth-riding setup for daily driving while still having decent towing capabilities. I was also thinking about using the mid-2000's leaf springs with the older 14 bolt, but disk brakes would be nice. I even thought about using mid-2000's 1/2 ton leaf springs and adding airbags for towing. Anybody done something like this or have any thoughts for/against? |
