4 Passenger Bench Seat
Can anyone tell me if they have ever seen a bench seat in a 67-72 truck set-up with seat belts for 4 people? Thanks.

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
They would have to be small people to fit 4. I don't think the factory ever put 4 in.

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
The small grey aliens are buying up all the 67-72s now. And they need the seat belts before they beam them up to the mother ship. And them little fellas fit four to a seat!
I hate to be the one with the conspiracy theory, but there you have it. It's got to be said. They always have my favorite beer and cheetos cheese flavored puffs on ship when they abduct me. Good PR I guess! |
Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
A person could move mounting points and stick four sets in there. You thinking about belts for kids?

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
We did that when we were little, but we just shared one lap belt.

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
I've had 4 people in my truck before. It's pretty uncomfortable and pretty illegal.

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
No, but I bet I'm not the only person who grew up riding in these trucks with more than one kid - my brother and I stuck in between Mom and Dad. In -40F weather, with Dad smoking a pipe and Mom smoking King Size. Smoky times.
But we fit until we were teens, anyway. No seat belts though, sorry! |
Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
The factory bench seat for three is as wide as will fit between the doors. So, four people that can fit in the cab, will fit on the seat. If you meant to ask about seat belts the answer is there are no light trucks or cars made to seat four on one seat. I don't know about other states, but here in Maryland more than three is illegal. So I guess we broke the law that day we cut school to go swimming with 17 people in a VW Bug. That was crazy crowded, so me and another guy road on the back bumper back to school

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
I grew up with my Dad's 1970 C10. He bought it in 1974. We ALL rode in the cab during the winter or when it was raining. Dad driving, me next to him with the gearshift between my legs, my brother next to me, then my mom sitting near the passenger side door with my sister sitting on her lap. HAHA! Nowadays you'd get pulled over for child endangerment! Not a seatbelt in sight.
During the summer my brother and I rode in the back... everywhere! My times have changed. :) Gary |
Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
It varies by state. When I took my license test in '84 in Sasaktchewan the law was you could put as many people as you could fit, except:
a) None to the left of the driver (!) b) Not crowding the driver Other than that, the first N passengers had to wear the N available seat belts, but after that you can stack them like cordwood. At the time, anyway. I think the law in WA is that it's also unlimited (I looked to see if I could put my kids in the pickup bed legally) but you have to use the available belts. Some states might specifically say 3 in the front, that'd be interesting. |
Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
GASoline71, that's exactly what we did in my dad's 71 C20 that he bought in 74. Dad drove w/ me and my sister in the middle and my little brother on mom's lap. Even drove from Indiana to Smokey mountains for vacation one year. Although me and my sister did ride in the bed under a truck cap part of the time. Even camped out of the topper. Not a camper, just a topper that Dad built a bed (platform) from the wheel wells forward. The kids slept on the floor w/ legs under the "bed" . Parents in the bed. Sometimes if we were good, one of us could sleep in the cab! Good times!

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
I would check your laws to see if it is legal first - then if its ok then proceed.
Good Luck :metal: |
Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
I took my girlfriend (then wife, then X) and her (then our) kids camping at the beach in a '71 K/20. That was before cops bothered you for anything they could. Also before child seat laws.

Re: 4 Passenger Bench Seat
I have added a fourth set of seatbelts in my '72 and my'74, and both of my kid's trucks, one is a '70 and the other is a '73, that way if you have four in there , you are buckled up, fine when some of the people are small....never heard of "you can only have 3 people in a truck", I always took me, my wife and our two boys in my truck, never had any problem...
