Tilt front end

Curious if anyone has any ideas or pics of hinges for a tilt front end. Using all steel and core support. Thanks. This is my first post.

Street application. Using all factory steel. Want to use factory core support to tilt. Have seen it done. Need ideas for hinges.

I havent done a tilt front end personally but a friend of mine built a 55 chevy gasser. He used some linear bearngs to allow the front end to slide forward befor it tilts. This allows the bottoms of the fenders to clear the doors. I would also think you might need some sort of assist cylinder to help lift and slow the lowering. Not sure how it would balance out being all steel might make it a bit heavy. I do think it would be pretty cool on a truck and give you pretty good acess to work on the motor.

Not that this helps but I did see a diagram of this exact setup on here a couple of days ago. I did a quick Google search and saw some pretty good ideas there.

The best ideas I have seen for street applications use the linear bearings like has been said. Find them at McMaster Carr and all your hardware for it should be available there. LEave the raiator support and everything where its at, build a new cross support out of 1" box tube that supports the whole front. For the rear use 3/4" solid round stock as Pins that drive into holes you align with the body at the lower doors. There you can put pins or latches etc to lock it shut.

Linear bearings using a shaft to move it forward will mount to the frame rail. the front end of the shaft will connect to your lower bumper cross rail with a rod end.

This guy made a video of it (its a gasser but same idea as a truck front end):

Welcome! Board member Frenchblue72 converted to a tilt hood back in 2009. There's a few pics here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=267665&page=5 -- not sure how much info is in the thread or if there are any more pics.
