smelling gas fumes in 67 c-10
 

I bought this gas cap for my 67 in November.It did good for a couple of months.Now I am smelling strong gasoline fumes in the cab.When I remove this cap there is a strong vaccumn in gas tank.How can it test this cap and is it supposed to release both pressure and vaccumn?

Honestly if you're getting ANY pressure differential like that when taking it off and on, then you already know it's not working. Whether it's the wrong unit or a malfunctioning correct unit I don't know.

Whether it failed or was wrong the whole time is a curiosity, but the wrong cap is a safety problem, so get a new one promptly either way I think! Pretty clear you don't have a functioning vent anywhere else in the system (which I presume to be normal, but don't know my 67s).

Caps are cheap. Just get a new one to try. Get a it from a different vendor/manufacturer/place you got that one.

Like Dave said... there should be no vacuum or pressure at all.

Check your fuel lines exiting the bottom of the tank through the cab floor. They always get me nerves. Why do I sound like my mom. lol

Also check any rubber lines you may have in the cab. Mine were seeping...very strong odor.

X2. Mine got so bad you couldn't drive it. The rubber lines at the top of the tank were the culprits.
