Was vacuuming the truck out today and found this. Anyone know if this can recharged and used again?

I highly doubt it. I believe that there is a lifespan on the canister. We just had to get rid of a bunch of job site units for this reason. I'm not sure if yours can be recertified, I just know that ours couldn't.

There used to be people around that refilled them but they are pretty much gone because of liability reasons. When I was on the Fire department years ago we refilled them for the public at no charge, but they discontinued the service because of the liability and the fact that extinguishers were being sold pretty cheap at the big box stores. Keep it for the nostalgia and buy a new one for the truck. There are GM branded extinguishers like that out there but they are hard to find....

I had kinda figured it wouldn't be usable since its real old, and an extinguisher is definitely on my list of things to buy.

That has the mount, right? I remember there were these nicer ones sold by off road places. Maybe halon?

Its funny this topic came up, I have two old fire extinguishers from 1973 in my basement, and was wondering if they can also be refilled, since they are period Correct. Also funny is the gauge still reads full, but I know it will just be one quick fart and its done.

:bann: So you found this while vacuuming the truck out, how much more stuff was in there? Did you not hear it rolling around under the seat?

It was actually tucked into the corner of the cab where the jack would go.

Yes, it still has the mount on it. Completely forgot to get a picture of it

The problem with them is that the powder gets compacted in the bottom of the cylinder. If you turn it upside down and tap it against your work bench it would probably loosen the powder up but there is no way to tell for sure. I wouldn't bet my house or truck on it though....:)
