Cool but scary truck.

Saw this nice looking step side on ebay. It has a great stance, nice meaty tire and wheel combo, air suspension, nice interior and LS conversion. Looks pretty well done.

Then I see pictures of the frame and suspension. This isn’t meant to be a bashing thread I’m just showing that it’s a good idea to look under a truck you’re thinking about purchasing. It’s like the exhaust was an afterthought. The rear suspension has been badly compromised. Check out how the trail arm cross member has been cut/notched to make room for the mufflers. You can also see where the right trailing arm has been notched for the exhaust. Going under the rear axle is a bit strange too. I don’t get it. Why would you take the time and money to resto-mod the truck then do an absolute hack job to install the exhaust.

Re: Cool but scary truck.
Oh wow! Your right. The next owner can just change the crossmember, trailing arms and exhaust.
What was I thinking? :hh: My bad. But I have to disagree with you on the LS. But your allowed your opinion. |
Re: Cool but scary truck.
Anyone notice the doors and window mods? I haven't seen the eBay ad but I'd guess power windows and the door vent window has been deleted. Tastefully done IMO.

Re: Cool but scary truck.
I completely agree with Slow Build on this one. He's just saying to not completely judge a book by it's cover. The outside and the interior look pretty nice, but the underside has mods that were done by someone who knows very little about structural integrity, chassis theory, and safety-related craftsmanship. Not picking on the builder, there's thousands of vehicles like this on the road today, some of them with LOTS of road miles. In the automotive world, a nice paint job will never cause a crash, but a suspension failure will. ALWAYS look underneath ANYTHING you buy and then make an educated decision. Ask yourself...Is it safe? Is anything hanging below the scrubline? Has the structural integrity of any suspension component been compromised? Are the welds good and solid? Are all the fluid lines and electrical harnesses properly supported away from any moveable point that could damage them?
I have been underneath and have repaired MANY hot rods that were built by "reputable" shops. I could write a horror novel, and that's all I'm gonna say. |

Re: Cool but scary truck.
It sold for $27,600. I hope the new owner fixes it before it causes major problems.
