Saddle tanks

I have a 69CST/10 with saddle tanks that are not presently hooked up. They both have some gas and do not smell stale. The po said when he smelled gas he dis connected the tanks. I just recovered the seats and would like to rig them to tilt forward, remove the in cab tank and utilize the space. Is this a good idea? Was there ever a problem with saddle tanks? What is their capacity? I would like to keep the under bed spare mount so not high on a tank mounted there. Not a daily driver.

Sorry but I do not know how to post pictures. Age related problem dob 3/29/33. obvious solution - live in grandkid - been there.

Re: Saddle tanks

The best thing would be to drop the tanks and have them boiled out and internally sealed. The majority of the tanks did not have sending units in them for the guage..... drove along felt the engine stumble ...quickly flip the switching valve by the seat and keep on going.. so with that said, have the tanks cleaned, get some sending units that will fit into the tank that have 90 ohm resistance. At that point you'll have to decide how to switch the tanks, old mechanical style electric toggle for the guage..... or convert to electric valve that swaps the sender and the fuel source at the same time. The tanks were usually around 20 gal each

A radiator shop can usually boil the tanks for you.
