Do I NEED a C-notch with a 6" drop?
Just wondering, hearing some of the horror stories (that I'm sure have been exaggerated) I'm wondering if I really need to do it. I'll never have anything in the bed... 'cept for maybe a couple girls.

Re: Do I NEED a C-notch with a 6" drop?
I have an axle flip with my bump stops bracket cut off and no c notch, and have never hit the frame with the axle. I have hauled only +-250 lbs loads though, so my .02$

Same here. Cut off the factory bump stops and I've never hit unloaded. I've grazed it one time with a engine in the bed right over the axle.

When I flipped my axle, I also notched half the frame out. Not sure I needed to.
I've (accidentally) hauled over 1700lbs in the back, and the bed floor sits on the pumpkin but the axle tubes still don't hit the frame. I think the axle tubes hitting the frame is less destructive than hitting the pumpkin. I'd say flip it without a notch, and see. If it's a problem, you'll know. It might not be enough of a problem. |

If your not gonna haul anything then no you dont need a notch dont worry bout it

Re: Do I NEED a C-notch with a 6" drop?
It really depends on the condition of your springs and whether you intend to haul anything. When I flipped mine I also replaced the springs with new. With 800lbs in the bed going 50mph I hit a big dip in one of our beautiful Connecticut roads. The only thing that hit was the front tire on the inner fender (4.5"drop).

Awesome news fellas, thanks. No notch for me, for now. I have a daily driver truck for hauling crap when I need to.

My 82 had 3.5in of clearance with no notch and my 78 has 2.5in of clearance with no notch. Neither has ever hit the frame. I even hauled another bed in the 78 and didn't hit the frame.

I've hauled my Honda Rubicon with extra gas and camping equipment in the bed. It never touched the frame. I'm pretty sure it came close with some pot hole avoiding maneuvers. LOL!
