Carpet options?
 

I am finishing up my nv4500 swap into my '88 V30 CC and will be needing new carpet to cut new shifter hole locations. This is not a show truck and would like to keep the cost down so quality isn't a huge concern for me at this point.

I was considering ordering carpet from Rockauto. They have a ACC 2 piece Cutpile molded midnight blue color for $134. Seems like a decent price. I will not be replacing any underlayment because I can reuse what I removed. Does anyone else know of any carpet kits cheaper or better for the price? Or has anyone bought that particular carpet I am looking at?

Would the midnight blue be to dark?

No way you can beat RockAuto carpet prices. The ACC stuff costs 50% more on other websites that sell auto carpet. I'd also consider getting the mass backing option for some sound deadening.

That said, I just ordered a vinyl floor cover from them with jute backing. Seemed to be a better match for my base base truck.;) I will probably lay down a few squares of Dynamat Xtreme (or a less expensive alternative) under the mat.

As for carpet colors, I thing ACC or StockInteriors.com will send you free samples.

MikeB did you happen to get blue vinyl from them by chance? I was considering vinyl also just to make clean ups easier.

No, I just got black. I think ACC also offers Charcoal vinyl, which is a little lighter, but I didn't see it at RockAuto.

Easy cleanup was one of my reasons for going with vinyl, too. My truck makes dump runs, and I'm always getting crunched up leaves, etc on the floor, which tend to get inter-woven with carpet!

BTW, seems like RockAuto always has a 5% discount code available somewhere. Mine was 4089342937137625, but I don't know if it can be used again. It's good through April 3.

Hope I am not hijacking this thread to much. I wanted to order a light blue carpet from Rock Auto but there are two different color codes from RA. Anyone know which code is light blue or where I can find color codes. Also is the th400 a high hump body

stock interiors (acc) does provide free samples of carpet (approx. 1.5" squares) through their website. it took me 3 business days to receive the samples that they sent me.

I ordered my carpet through stock interiors, the prices were reasonable (there is an upcharge for mass backing) and the shipping came in at just under $40.

So far the quality looks great.

I know this place is more money, but I can say I'm very happy with the quality. I got my carpet from here for my 86 C10. It was molded perfectly.

How did you do the rear cab panel? Mine acts like a drum!

I don't know. Mine is for a column shift. It's scheduled to arrive on Tuesday 3/15. I'll let you know how it looks and fits.

You have to cut all the holes. I just put ACC vinyl in my 99 last weekend. They send it long everywhere so you have to trim the front, sides and rear to fit along with any seat holes, shifter holes etc. Its just one long solid piece of vinyl.

Well I just ordered ACC vinyl in medium blue. I excited to see what it looks like once installed. It sounds like it may take a decent amount of time if I have to trim all sides to fit

I had about 2 hrs in fitting it probably. There is a lot more in the floor of this truck to trim around than a square body though so it shouldn't take you as long. This truck has a floor console with vents along with rear floor vents for when you put it on floor heat. That stuff along with the rear seat bolts and jack storage areas, front seat holes etc. it was a lot of trimming. You could probably have a square done a lot faster. I didn't take any pictures but heres one a friend took. This was after I had the front trimmed and fit and was working on the dr side. I hadn't trimmed the rear or pass side yet so you can see the extra there. It has smoothed out and laid out much flatter after being in the truck for a week now.

I ordered my carpet and door panel stuff through acc. great product. I installed the sound deadener in the entire cab and with the jute backing it was super quiet. Will definitely use them again. I will say i ordered about 4 of the sample colors and was glad i did. The colors don't look like they do online. I ordered something completely different to match my factory seats and stuff. It will look good. Definitely let it sit in the sun for a while before you finalize everything. it will eventually lay down right!u have to cut the shifter holes and stuff but take your time and trim off the sides and stuff little by little. It will be worth it in the end.

I started installing the ACC vinyl floor cover in my 82 yesterday. Spent around 2 hours removing the seat and seat belts, and cleaning up the floor under the seat. A previous owner must have driven the truck down dirt roads for years with the windows open! Someone had also glued down a thin piece of black felt to serve as a carpet, and the glue caused the paint to peel. Fun stuff!

Anyway, when I first dropped in the new floor cover, I thought, "No way will this fit." However, I eventually got it positioned so the molded-in contours of the vinyl fit the floor almost perfectly. The problem was the cover is 8"-10" longer in the front than it needs to be, so must be folded back on itself for the rest of the cover to fit the floor contours. I also unbolted the accelerator pedal from the firewall to push the vinyl in behind it.

After I got that far, I trimmed the left and right sides, and then screwed down the door thresholds to hold the cover in place. Now I'm working on the front edge under the dash. In an ideal world, the heater box would be removed for floor cover installation, but I had just repaired and reinstalled it a couple months ago, and don't want to remove/replace it again.

On another note, a friend gave me a couple sheets of HushMat Ultra that I installed in smaller pieces on the floor under the seat, I am also using the pre-cut ACC-supplied jute backing, which covers the foot wells (top of sloped section to front of seat). Somewhere down the line, I'll probably install more sound deadening material and may replace the jute with a cotton/foil heat barrier like this: http://www.bondedlogic.com/ultratouch-radiant-barrier/

By the time I get the cover fully installed and the seats and seat belts back in place, I will probably have 6-8 hours in the job, which includes cleaning and prepping my dirty floors.

I just got my vinyl floor from ACC installed. I ordered the medium blue from RockAuto. I believe it cost $156 to my door. Once installed it looks okay. I believe the molds could have been better (for my CC anyway). My problem area was mainly the front 1/2 of the 2 piece kit. I did need to trim approximately 3-4" off the very front and had problems getting it to lay right around the corners of the seat base humps. I actually had the cut and overlap it around the corner of the hump so I could get it to lay down right and look better. The rear 1/2 fit alot better and fit the contours of my floor better. I probably had about 4-5 hours of installation time.

Didn't get it finished today, but all I have left to do is install the throttle pedal assy. I've been massaging the vinyl cover at the very front of the bellhousing hump to get it to lay down properly.

I did come up with this time-saver for cutting holes for bracket and belt bolts.

First I found the bolt hole center by hitting the mat with a ball peen hammer. You can see the outline of the hole.

Next I center punched the vinyl with an awl.

Finally, I drilled a hole in the vinyl using a 5/8" wood bit.

This one came out in one piece, but I had to use an Xacto knife to trim a couple.

OK, here's the finished job. I don't know why ACC molded-in wrinkles at the top front, but I guess it could be worse. From there back everything fits nicely. I ran the vinyl a few inches up the kick panels because I plan to cover them. But not sure with what. ??? The vinyl also runs up the rear cab wall, and I'll probably just leave it.

I have to say that with just 2-3 sq ft of HushMat on the floor under the seat, along with the jute backing under the front half of the carpet, the cab is noticeably quieter. As I said in a post above, I plan to add more HushMat and more heat insulation at some later date.
