C20 Suspension / Brake Upgrades

Truck: 1964 Chevrolet C20 (350 V8, 4spd on the floor, 4.11 rear?, no power steering/brakes or AC!)

I am looking to upgrade my suspension to disc brakes all around and add a master cylinder, and I have found a kit for 8-lug fronts, however, I would like to upgrade to 5-lug front and rear disc plus a mild lowering of the truck with drop spindles (front) and blocks/springs (rear).

I am on a budget (and don't really have the option to blow through it at this time).

These are the priorities for the truck:
1. finishing work on cab supports and relocate gas tank outside of the cab. Fabricate a harness bar in this location with harnesses
2. front/rear disc brakes with upgraded master cylinder (and do suspension at the same time)
3. Install Retro-style EFI system (already have this)
4. Find a used T5 and rear axle for better highway suitability
5. Scruff up primer and spray with clear (looking for the old patina style hotrod truck)
6. Install AC system!

Use for the truck; a nice cruiser to take to local car shows that will do some trips to Lowes for a few bags of mulch or a box to big for our SUV. Nothing daunting as I have a car that is meant for the track and a SUV for the family.

Any advice or links to advice for a C20 is greatly appreciated as I've been reading for quite awhile now and I am finding to much conflicting thoughts.

If your truck is an 8 lugger, you could try Lugnuts to see if he has a rear disc brake conversion for it and just leave it 8 lug. You said you found an 8 lug front kit. I dont see 5 lugs as an "upgrade". Lots cooler with 8 in my opinion. He does have a universal kit with weld on brackets, and his prices are OUTSTANDING! A kit for my Dana 60 with E-brake calipers is $500.

Awesome! I was only considering changing to the 5 lug because it opened up more options for wheels and was the only thing I could find for rear discs for a C20. Thanks for the link, I am now considering keeping the 8-lug setup!

Im not sure I understand this. I looked at the website you sent. It does not say anything about a Chevy D60 disc brake kit, only ford. Also, how would it save $200? Im getting ready to do the same conversion and Id like to save $ where I can.

Well they did have the Checy Dana 60 on there. I guess they pulled it. Reason I said $200 is because the Ruff stuff kits are $328 compared to $500 for the Lugnuts kit.

The standard kit at Lugnuts is $315. Other upgrades include braided stainless hoses for $20 and high performance slotted rotors for $80. The $200 more is for E-brake calipers which are not offered at Ruff Stuff. The Ruff Stuff kit does come with weld on brake line tabs that Lugnuts does not include. It still would be nice to have another option though!

I only looked at the 14 bolt kit from Lugnuts and what came up was $500. Guess I better do better research.
