61' C20 from Connecticut
 

Hey everyone,

Thought I would introduce myself and show my new project. Picked up this 61' C20 in December and have just began to really start working on it. This forum has been really helpful already with supplying me with information and ideas.

The truck has a GM Goodwrench 350 in it. Runs really well. Starts on the first key turn. The transmission is a 4-speed with granny low. Any idea of what this trans could be? I'm sure if I researched I could find out but figured I'd toss the question out here first.

I believe the rear end is an HO52 from the numbers I pulled off it. 3766686 D.

The truck has a little rust in the floor and rockers. That is my first task I want to tackle. While I am at it I am also going to spruce up the interior a bit with some fresh paint, carpet, seat cover and some window and door seals. I have ordered most of it and am currently waiting for it to all come in.

The truck as a salvaged VIN. I'm pretty sure it was in a flood in AZ or some western state. It has an Arizona VIN and every nook and cranny is filled with sand. I ran some air through the rockers and it created a mini sand storm. Very little rust for this being the case though.

While the weather has been crappy I have also been working on getting some of the interior functions better working such as the heat, wipers, and lights. It is a bit of a Frankenstein truck and has various parts from different years on it.

The speedometer is kind of bouncy though. It reads accurately but does not hold super steady. If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd love to hear it.

Lastly for now I am going to paint up the frame. Looks good as of now but I want to make it look good and mainly preserve it. Only real issue I have with it is how the exhaust was run... Looks quite butchered.. I also plan to put in a new wood bed. I plan to use 3/4 inch ply and use a router on it and then buy the metal strips.

Sure looks like an Arizona body appears to be pretty solid. I have a 98 that came from Az and it was also full of very fine dirt. I hosed out the inner fenders and stuck the hose up over the rear wheels and dirty water came out for quite a while. I would look into getting some wood from a sawmill for the bed. My brother just did the bed floor on his 56 with rough saw pine and original bed strips. Painted the floor a light grey when finished and it looks original. He can use it as a truck but still have it look decent. Paint is easy to touch up.

I took some pics of that truck with along with mine 3 years ago in at a cruise night in Stafford. Cool truck!

Thanks for the input. The bed is currently made of rough cut pine The wood is just a tad to thick and makes the bed sit high. I may try and use a router on the outside edge and try to save a few bucks.

That's so cool! Sadly the truck looks a lot cleaner in your pictures. The paint is pretty faded now. I have found the truck on other forums too from even before the guy I bought the truck from had it.

Where was that cruise night in Stafford?

Find some one with a thickness planer and it would take about 5 minutes thin them down some. If you take a ride to the Cape I have access to one.
