Ultra Rare 1972 GMC SS Sierra

Over Easter weekend, my cousin Bunny told me about a pretty orange truck that her Grandpa Peter owned off of Rabbit Valley Road in North Georgia. She said that he bought it new back in 1972, and that is was a special order truck for his dealership, Cottontail Chevy/GMC.

He loved the '70 SS Chevelles, and using his inside contacts with the GM brass ordered what may be the one and only 1972 GMC SS-396 Sierra.

The SPID confirms the odd combinations that Mr. Cottontail checked off the order box. He even ordered Hub Caps just in case he wanted to change up the looks of the SS wheels. Nice... It appears that there are a few egg stains in the glove compartment. Not sure what that means?

What a truck... Cowl Induction Hood, Rear Spoiler, Stripes, Special Suspension and big block power. I have never seen one like it. I tried to buy the truck but Peter's wife April said he would be a fool to sell his truck.

Oh well, maybe I will find my special truck next year.

I think it's a good story, but doubt it's true. For one it is April 1st and we all know what that means, ;) and 2 I know what it takes for certain parts to be made and GM wouldn't go to that extent for a 1 off truck. WES

What... today is April 1st?

I stayed in trouble as a youngster for telling tall tales to my Mom. I guess some things never change.

Inner fender wheel wells are a giveaway.

Still nice "looking" truck.

Sadly,

There are a bunch of new facebook pages popping up where people actually believe they have the Ultra-Rare C-10....:)

Peter said the inner fenders were special order GMC SS only and were not available until April 1st of that year.

I think he removed the AC and hid it in a basket out behind the barn.

Wait.... Hold on.... Are you implying that the one I bought wasn't the only "one of a kind" GM produced? Now I'm all furred up.

I'm starting to think this was all made up. Those ultra rare GMCs were Super Duties. The Chevys were Super Sports. That's what my Uncle Remus' truck was.

Re: Ultra Rare 1972 GMC SS Sierra

I hope everyone had a great April Fool's day yesterday, and a little fun with my ultra rare SS GMC. Great comments and come backs, too.

I spent a couple of hours PhotoShopping that GMC and the fake SPID. I have created my own SPID file and font to use later on and thought this would be a good place to use it. Of course the engine bay photo is from a 1969 Camaro.

I think the April Fool's joke is on me because the more I look at this truck the more I like it! I would love to build one just for a different look. It shouldn't be too hard to pull the parts together. Hmmm....
