One coat frame paint?

I'm in a bind for cash and need to get my truck going. I still want to paint the frame, but wondering. Is there a paint that will do a good job with that one paint being the ONLY coat of paint on there?

Thanks for any help offered.

Under the truck brushing on mine was done with 50/50 Tremclad and used engine oil. It is messy but eventually hardens up to something that doesn't look too bad.

I've painted patio railings with Krylon rust paint which can be bought in a liter or quart can.

Years ago I did a model A frame with Glazurit paint but it probably wasn't cheap and it was put over epoxy primer.

I would suggest checking into John Deere Blitz Black or some type of industrial primer/paint.

If you have a Rodda Paint store in your area, they have some good industrial paints that aren't expensive.

Yeah your best bet is go go with an Epoxy primer. Make sure the frame is cleaned really good. You can just brush or roll it on. If you cant spray it.

Just remembered, my brother uses Cloverdale industrial enamels, which he swears by. I think they are two part and a fraction of the cost of other name brand paints. He has it tinted to any colour and paints cars, trucks, and equipment with it.

POR-15 and metal prep $85 for both on LMC Its the correct stuff and its very durable. Not to say I know exactly what should be used but this is what I have found through looking up what to use.

I used rustoleum and sprayed it after I sandblasted the whole chassis
$28 a gallon and a quart of acetone for $8 to reduce it to spray it .
before and after pictures .

go to a farm supply store and get a gallon of implement paint. Mix with laquer thinner. works great and cheap.

I was looking hard at the Tremclad paint however, can't seem to find it here in the USA.

Tremclad in the USA is just Rustoleum. In Canada it is rebranded as Tremclad

I used Hammerite on mine. It's a rust encapsulator like POR-15. So far it's holding up well after about 1-1/2 years and 8000 miles. Had several colors to choose from. Bought it at Elliot's Hardware in Mesquite, TX when I was still living in Forney.

I brush painted the entire bottom of my 59 el camino 8 years ago with rustoleum when I restored it . the 59 body I painted with base/clear urathane.
the el camino is not garaged , its in a open carport and it still looks really good underneath after 8 years .
its the best deal for the money !!

then when I was building my 93 454 pickup I didn't have the money to buy paint to paint it after I did all the bodywork .
so for less than $75.00 I painted it two tone red n black with 2 coats of rustoleum from lowes and a harbor freight spraygun.
I painted it outside in janurary a year ago.

I used 2 coats of por applied with a foam brush, let it cured, then scotch brite it with a red pad and top coated with black epoxy. It looks good and Its a driver, but if I were to do it again -i would probably epoxy primer and paint. Spi epoxy is pretty awesome by itself and not real expensive.
