250 starting help.

I have a 250 inline 6. was sitting for many years and decided to get it going. I have all new parts in the distributor as well as a new coil and have spark. I drained the gas tank and put some fresh fuel in it. also cranked it over to clean out the bad gas in the line in to a can. I also just noticed a leak in the (guessing) exhaust manifold to the head on the last (back) port. when cranking over it seems like it wants to star but does not. any ideas? should I have the carb rebuilt (beyond my knowledge)? Thanks for your advice

Re: 250 starting help.

I haven't tried to start my 250 that's been sitting since 2005 but here is what I have done so far.

1). Derusted and renewed (it's a process called that) the gas tank.
2). Bent and bubble flared all new fuel lines from tank to pump.
3). New fuel pump.
4). Had carb rebuilt.
5). Cleaned old vent lines with Krud Kutter (phosphoric acid) and put in new connection hoses.

Both my tank and carb were full of rust.

What I plan to do (soon).

1). New pump to carb fuel line (bend my own).
2). Change oil and filter, 1 quart will be Marvel's Mystery Oil.
3). Turn oil pump with drill to throw oil all about.
4). New battery and try to start.

OK here is what I have done so far. all new parts in the distributor to include wires and plugs(the cap is new had no wear in it just dirty. Checked when cranking and I have spark. Rebuilt the carb. also flushed the fuel tank and lines and added new fuel. painless wiring harness #10206 installed. the motor will crank and seems like it wants to start but will not. it is getting gas and I do have spark. any ideas what my issue could be? any help at this point would be highly appreciated.

Even though it is sparking it may not be sparking at the right time. I would start over on the distributor, firing order, plug wires, & timing, rechecking everything..

Are you closing the choke plate when you try to start it? Have you tried pouring a little gas in the carb then try it?
