truck is sloooowwww

well, i finally got to see what my truck would do, even though today was an 1/8 mile race..
1st run.. 11.26
2nd run.. 11.32

truck is soooo sllllooowww

i'm not all surprised at how slow it is.. but, it needs to be faster, thats for sure.

kevhill85 09-28-2003 07:08 PM

what combo do u run in the truck .

2tankin79 09-28-2003 07:34 PM

i've got a 327, with a 350 trans, has a weiand intake, edelbrock carb, with the double hump? heads, and thats basically all i know. i looked in an engine book, and the lowest HP 327 in there was like 275 i think. the guy i bought this truck off of said the engine was makin 300 hp. i dunno though, it is a truck n all, but still.. 11.3 in the 1/8 with 300 hp? i dont think so.. unless i'm just missin the whole 300 thing, if u really think about it, 300 isnt that much horsepower at all, especially in a truck.

Jeff

kevhill85 09-28-2003 07:43 PM

well the ram air ta make 345 they run 8.5 to 8.90 in the 1/8. i run 7.90 to 8.10 in the 1/8. it depends on the night and track perp

Jessechop 09-28-2003 07:51 PM

What gears, heck that shouldnt make that much of a difference. Are you hooking up??? I ran a bone stock, junkyard 305 in a 3800 lb Olds Omega and ran 10.06. This was with a accurate timing method, meaing not your buddy standing there with a stop watch.

kevhill85 09-28-2003 07:57 PM

how far r u spaning dnow the track . was it a good track . i have ran a 10.5 caues the track was sh**

Jessechop 09-28-2003 07:57 PM

Dude the more I think about it the more it puzzles me. 300 hp should put you in the 9's, my s10 with a 300 hp 350 runs low 9's with a slipping pos th200 and a 3:08 rear. With a good trans and gears I could be in the 8's with no problem and this motor aint got much. 30 over, performer intake, 600 cfm carb, the smallest edlbrock cam and a set of 882 heads, no headers, no slapper bars, nothing. Hell thats probably not even 300hp.

Is your truck running good on the street?? Pinging? Did you check your timing?fuel filter? AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I dont get it that should be a hell of alot faster

2tankin79 09-28-2003 08:05 PM

i'm not sure what gears are in it, and no, it wont spin the tire less its wet, its a good track, its got headers, into dumped flowmasters, like it makes much of a difference? i dont know, it runs fine on the street, no odd noises or anything, i'm just not sure whats up with it, maybe just an old, tired engine? i was gonna lower my truck 4/6, but now i suppose i'll put the $ into the engine. but, i'm not positive about the 300 hp, thats what the guy said it had, and like i said, the lowest hp 327 in the book i was lookin at had like 250-275..

also, no, i didn't check the timing, and i didn't check the fuel filter.. i wont get to run it till next year, and this time it was my dad racing it, seein as how i only have a permit, and cant run it.
he said he had it to the floor.. the first time he ran down, i figured he was just ***** footin around tryin not to tear it up or anything, but he said it was to the floor..

its got a single track, but i dont think that would make any difference at all, seein as how it wasnt spinning..

kevhill85 09-28-2003 08:09 PM

my 383 has 524TQ and 497hp at the flywheel

Jessechop 09-28-2003 08:56 PM

Yea pull a compression check, single track should be able to light that right up, pos has a 81 that will just smoke em with a basicly stock 350. HMmmmmmmmm........................

84Stepper 09-28-2003 09:31 PM

Is that all....497hp..that is *****.

84Stepper 09-28-2003 09:33 PM

j/k man...Wish I had the money to get there!

kevhill85 09-28-2003 09:56 PM

lol @ 84stepper. that what the dyno show.

2tankin79 09-28-2003 10:13 PM

i wish i had 479 horsepower :(

kevhill85 09-28-2003 10:17 PM

it took alot of time to get it . i been bulding this truck for the last year

gchemist 09-29-2003 03:07 AM

That truck needs a serious tune up. My 305 has better times. Computer estimates about 165 HP at the rearwheels.
What were the reaction times and MPH? The stock 327 really spins high so the low end really stinks.

1FaastC10 09-29-2003 09:04 AM

first off a 327 is NOT a good truck motor. its designed to be a revver, not a torwue monster. and with a 4500#+ truck, you need a torque monster.

2tankin79 09-29-2003 08:54 PM

1st run..

r/t: 810
60: 2.53
330: 7.32
1/8: 11.26
mph: 62

2nd run..

r/t: 759
60: 2.51
330: 7.33
1/8: 11.32
mph: 61

then the rain came.. fairly consistent bracket race truck, it seems like anyway..
just too friggin sloowww

gldevall 09-29-2003 09:04 PM

9.522 @ 72.93 in the 1/8th

Jessechop 09-29-2003 09:11 PM

Ok were getting there, youre 60ft is youre killer, that is almost a second slower than mine, so................

Was he just mashing the gas when the tree fell or was he foot braking it, secondly, gears, gears, gears, you must have 2:73 or the wonderful 2:43's. Swap them puppys out, get 3:42's oe 3:36's then you will still have plenty of highway crusing and good low end. A bigger converter wouldnt be bad either, stay at about a 2500 or so, definetly not over 3000, we have a 3800 in the camaro and you cant street drive that thing, not that anyone in there right mind would want to, but I love driving it, hmmm..............................................

Good luck, keep me posted

gldevall 09-29-2003 09:54 PM

My best 60' has only been a 2.163. So, you're not too much off of that.

gchemist 09-29-2003 10:02 PM

60 ft: 2.5803
330 ft: 7.0815
So you're close. Seems the 327 is really struggling to get moving past the 330 ft point. This points to gearing. By the 1/8 I'm doing 66+ MPH :p

Jessechop 09-30-2003 06:12 AM

330 is 1/16th, he is only running the 1/8th

GM only offered one ratio above 2.73, and it was 2.41. these were for pasenger car differentials only, they never made it into trucks.

Jessechop 09-30-2003 04:05 PM

Oh, OK never new that. I do have a set of 2:41's out of a truck if some one is interested, not sure who made them and I also have a set of 2:23's also out of a truck, this truck was 4wd not sure what company made these either, they were in the trucks when I bought them.
