4L80E torque converter

I've got a new converter for my 6.0/4L80E swap. It is stock and measures about 13". everything I'm reading says it should hold 5 quarts of fluid. I've been filling it since Saturday night and I have only able to get 4 quarts in it so far. I'm thinking that should be good enough for now. Looking for thoughts from others...

Thats plenty for a start up . You will never get it full just pouring in fluid . Fill the pan and start it up and let it run just enough for the pump to fill the rest of the system and shut it off and recheck and fill . After a full heat cycle check it again .

If its a completely dry system its going to hold a lot more than 5 qts..did you fill the t/c ? It holds about a qt by itself..we just swapped a 4l60 out, flushed complete system, blew out all lines and trans cooler, and I think it held a total of around 12 qts..I may be off a little on amount...clinebarger would know for sure..

I dump a few qts into the convertor itself before installing, then fill the trans. Until the thing is spinning and pumping fluid, it'll never fill entirely. Between the convertor, trans, and my cooler, it was like 13ish qts

Sorry, I didn't clarify. I'm filling the converter on my work bench before I install it on the trans and bolt the engine and trans together.

Its 13 total . . . .

The less that you have in the converter before it gets installed, the better off you are not to gouge any orings
