The end is in sight!
I took a few minutes and made a list of things left to do on the truck to get her running. There isn't much left!
I have 17 things on my list. Now each one will take a few days, but it is exciting! Wanna see the list? 1). Clean up heater box (paint inside side of flapper, etc.) 2). Reassemble heater box and put back onto truck. 3). Derust wiper assembly (I have some rust there). 4). Paint wiper squirters (I can do that tomorrow). 5). Fix windshield washer pump (I'll buy the pump a member suggested if I cannot find one at the junkyard). I will also need to get/make a bracket, clean up washer bottle, etc. 6). Put carb back on and hook up to pedal. 7). Make the last of the fuel line pump to carb. 8). Fix stuck parking brake. 9). Flush brake lines. 10). Refill and bleed brake lines. 11). Clean and epoxy prime NOS cowl. 12). Paint new fender and cowl. (Body shop doing that). 13). Oil change. 14). Hook up temporary cooling system. 15). Spin oil pump. 16). Start engine! 17). Reassemble front end. A few things will remain: fix horn, get new tires, etc. but that's pretty much it. Comments? |
Re: The end is in sight!
I wish I was that close. Sounds like you will be driving it in a month!

Re: The end is in sight!
what was on the list that's already been completed? was this a new truck or something you've had for a while?
i'm confused about what item 14 is... |
Re: The end is in sight!
I've been plugging along since 2013....I joined the site shortly after getting started. Dad bought the truck new in 1972 and I've let it sit in a garage since becoming the owner in 1994.
A lot has been done! Last summer saw quite a bit take place....new fuel lines (made my own, TexasFireFighter really motivated me to do it myself), new body panels, cleaned up every bracket and every bolt myself, derusting with elctrolysis and evaporust then repainting, replaced the cab-to-frame bushings under the cab......lots of things! #14: "Temporary cooling system." I figured that before I reassemble the front end, I should make sure she runs and no seals leak. I'll just run some cobbled together water tank and hoses and put the radiator in later, during reassembly of the front end. It won't be a month! Probably much longer than that. If I just get it mobile by July I'll be very happy! Here she is now: Actually, more is done: heater box is off, washer bottle bracket was repainted yesterday, and the front bumper is off. http://i1313.photobucket.com/albums/...psorpspb4p.jpg |
Re: The end is in sight!
I've had the end in sight since before I started. My problem is seeing through all the crap in the middle . Congratulations! Can't wait to see that thing roll

Re: The end is in sight!
Nice, congrats! My list is growing much shorter too, but it was a lot shorter than your original list to begin with. I'm about a month out. It's exciting to get to a point where you know you'll be actively driving it soon!
