Just Bought a 69 K20
2 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum and just bought this 69 K20. It was owned by the Port of Portland and sat at a couple local small airports, so it only had 34,800 miles on it when I got it home. It was a fire support vehicle and maintenance vehicle. Anybody needs some emergency lights? It needs work, like they are do, but it's solid. I've already learned a bunch from this forum, what a wealth of info and knowledge we have at our fingertips! Steve |

Woah! This one should be nice. MORE PIX PLEASE!
I recommend you leave it as is with the accessories on it but if you choose not to, actually I do need some lights for my '67 fire truck. IM me. |

The only other picture I have right now is of it getting a load of top soil for the garden. I'll get some interior shots and a shot of the glove box sticker and post those. It has the jack and accessories, plus I found the build sheet after pulling the seat to clean out the cab. It has 4.57 gear, N/S rear axle, HD rear springs and power steering. A brake booster was added.
I talked to a guy that drove it for a few years, I'm trying to get some of the service records... |
Re: Just Bought a 69 K20

Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
Oooh, I like. 4.57 diff, though... what's it spun out to at 55mph? ;)

Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
You have the "drunk installer's spotlight" accessory. Apparently a few installers were hammered when they put on the spotlights and got yours onto the roof instead of the side of the windshield.
Are you going to keep that? *I would.* |
Re: Just Bought a 69 K20

Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
Wow that's cool. Nice buy. And tow hooks too?!

Congrats on the find and nice truck.

Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
Drunk installers spot light, I like that. There are some holes in the roof that will get filled soon, plan to paint the cab white.
It does turn some RPM's on the highway, I got some 16x7 wheels already after reading recomendations from the forum, after painting them white they will get a set of 255/85 tires. My last 69 Chevy had 4.57 gears, that was 30 years ago. I ran 36 inch tires on that truck and the gearing was just right. I don't think the wife could climb in the truck with a big lift and 36's anymore... |
Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
Yea first time i have seen a spot lamp thru the roof like that, usually they go thru the driver A pillar, maybe the light was more useful to them that way? Anyway thats a great project truck to start with!

Re: Just Bought a 69 K20
Congrat's on the K20, nice truck you lucky guy, just buy the truck a set of steps and then the wife will be happy, will help w that ratio.
Any more info on it, sure is nice to find a low mile truck. |

And some exterior shots.
I just bought some used 255-85-16 Cooper tires and have some 16 by 7 wheels going in to be powder coated this week. Will be looking for hub caps soon. I'm going to install an add-a-leaf in the front to raise it an inch and a half, and a taller block in the back to level it out. I have a passenger front fender being painted right now. Just bought all new fluids for the diffs, tranny and t-case and will be busy changing these out in the next couple weeks. I thought the t-case output seal was bad, but it was just all the t-case bearing retainers leaking, so I'm going to try sealing those up. The rear main seal is leaking, so later this summer I plan to pull the motor and replace all the gasket and seals. So far it's been fun tinkering with it, and looking forward to working on it more. |
